Thank you so much for this yet another gem from my all time favorite SSI. Good to hear some rare compositions. I’m sure I’m going to listen this record many more times in future. Kudos to Vaak for this great service🙏

The thing with these elaborate concerts is that you are assured that the melodic feeling will not end soon, as opposed to listening to albums. There is no doubt that Semmangudi Mama, creatively supported by Krishnan Mama and Ramabhadran Mama have taken this concert to sublime levels. The slow and unhurried pace adds to the grandeur, and I feel as though I am on a long distance plane, quite oblivious to the ambient speed and lulled to sleep. All the ragams are exceptional but I was stunned by the Chakravagam melody. Thank you Vaak, "keep 'em comin'." :-)

What an excellent advice from Vid SSI Sir "My advice to youngsters, especially male vocalists, is that you should come out and sing only after your voice matures. These days, young children are brought to the stage even before their voice breaks. It may be nice to hear children sing, but it is best to wait till the voice matures. There is today a lack of devotion. Musicians should be charged with devotion. There should be bhakti towards music. That would liven music and ensure that it endures. (Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer in Krishnakumar and Ravikiran, 1998)"

Thank you for the fantastic upload! The KZbin description says Madras Kalyanaraman on ghatam but according to the video in the first minute listing the artists, as well as Music Academy webpage, it is Umayalpuram K Narayanaswami.

@@krrk3978 Yes. There has been a small confusion regarding the ghatam artist. Many times the artists might have been changed in the last minute due to their availability which cannot be reflected on the souvenirs. The photograph was tagged as Madras Kalyanaraman in the Music Academy books. So we went with what was photographed. Another example of this is when the souvenirs have tagged the mridangam artist as Pazhani Subramania Pillai for the 1960 Music Academy concert for both Semmangudi and Madurai Mani Iyer. But due to Pazhani’s health conditions he did not perform that season and he was replaced by CS Murugabhoopathi and Vellore Ramabhadran respectively.

Thank you for clarifying this confusion, it is very helpful. The ghatam in the concert did not sound like Umayalpuram Narayanswamy to me. Thanks again
