it would be awesome if you made a quick video showcasing your favorite book(s) across some major theological topics. Perhaps, justification, predestination, doctrine of God, sacramentalism, anthropology (original sin), ecclesiology, covenants/law and gospel.

Any suggested readings for Calvin on Law/Gospel? Would love to read a dedicated accumulation of his thoughts if one exists...
@DrJordanBCooper3 жыл бұрын
It certainly shows up in the Institutes and in some of his commentaries, but I don't know of a singular work that addresses it thoroughly.

Thanks very much for powering through despite the technical difficulties! I thought this was useful and would love to see more Law/Gospel content from you. I appreciate your frustration with the article in question. It’s very hard to engage with people when it seems as though they’re trying to use isolated statements of Luther and are just not familiar with the Lutheran confessions.

That thing about the Gospel being "Jesus is Lord" and not "Christ died for you" is so stupid. It seems to be mostly Scot McKnight and his clique attacking the TGC folks, and it seems really counterproductive all around.
@benmizrahi28893 жыл бұрын
I agree. I always learned that the Gospel is "Christ died for you".

It seems that you would agree with Andrew then, if he isn't arguing against the classical view, but a modern, or even incorrect view. He isn't arguing against you then, even if he thinks he is.

How would a Lutheran understand St. Paul's application of the Law in 1 Corinthian's 9:9? It seems like St. Paul doesn't make a distinction between "Law and Gospel" in this case; instead, he seems to uphold the Law (albeit, transformed by the Gospel) as still applicable in the lives of Christians in Corinth.
@DrJordanBCooper3 жыл бұрын
Where did I say that the law is not applicable in the lives of Christians?
@HectorLopez-qb2fj3 жыл бұрын
@@DrJordanBCooper, sorry, I more clearly meant to suggest the Law is applicable to the salvation of the community in Cornith. My impression of the Law and Gospel distinction is that Law is unable to save at best and damning at worst; on the other hand, the Gospel is saving and life-giving (which, of course it is!); nevertheless, applying the Law/Gospel distinction seems unhelpful as a hermeneutic lense for understanding Paul in the verse to which I was referring. Instead, it seems like the Law is life-giving in this case; at least, that's my reading of St. Paul's message to the Corinthians at that point in the letter.

I know Andrew he is a nice guy. This issue has been a bone contention with me. One thing with him is that he wants to start a theocracy. His main influence is R J Rushdoony and Francis Shafer both which mingle and that America has always been a Christian nation. That is why he points to law and rejects the law gospel paradigm it just doesn't fit with his theocracy
@DrJordanBCooper3 жыл бұрын
That is what I assumed his primary issue is in my look at some of his work.

You and I come from a reformed background so we see the ideas of this. It took me along time to see how this plays out. example Calvin Geneva
@DrJordanBCooper3 жыл бұрын
@@dabeaudoin78 Calvin's Geneva was not the paradise some imagine it would be. Nonetheless, the law-gospel distinction in and of itself is not opposed to any notion of Christian government. Luther certainly believed that Christianity would guide the leaders of his day in political action.

I agree with you on that. That why the Bible tells us to pray for our leaders

Thank You Very Much Doctor Jordan B . Cooper. I am not a Lutheran, Calvinist, or what ever. Yet I get what Lutheran' s are saying. Our Righteousness is in YESHUA HAMASHIACH alone. The HOLY SPIRIT infuses us with the life of YESHUA HAMASHIACH to make this possible. The Scriptures is clear, uncomplicated. We have a knack as earthlings, human creatures, and mere mortals because of our drive to be right, this leads us to become hubristic, haughty, and lost, when the rubber meets the 🛣 . 🙏✝️⚓🛐🤲 . At the end of the day Theology, Anthropology is not our Righteousness, Salvation, or Shalom in YESHUA HAMASHIACH. 🕯🚪🌪💡
