Whether it's the perceived unjust death of George Floyd or the perceived death of fair elections in this country, from time to time political parties will have an unresolved beef with our government. Whether you support a party that reacts by marching into the seat of authority and confronting that power directly where it lives or whether your party reacts by indiscriminate burning vulnerable, innocent, local communities is up to the individual. But one of them is inherently evil and one is inherently noble. IMHO.

As someone who lives 7 miles from the TJ boarder... At no point in my life have I ever felt threatened by the "security" of our boarders. I see many people around the US, thousands of miles away from any Mexicans, with no clear understanding or point of reference, willing to throw tax dollars at a very small problem. A problem that has less of an impact on national security, or anything associated with the truly disturbing socio-economic position we're in. Do we have crime along the boarder? Yes, but no more than any metropolitan area in the US. So to bring this back to the conservative agenda regarding the border wall; this will do nothing other than displace families, threaten international trade with US businesses and our largest trade ally, but guess what's not gonna change? The drug trade. You know why? Because American citizens are the number one consumer of these drugs. And it's Americans doing most of the distribution. The most impactful way to mitigate crime associated with drug smuggling is to de-criminalize the drug. Not make it legal. But take it to a level in which this "war on drugs" is no longer a war on our citizens. As a product of my environment, I can't speak for everyone on the border, but consider my 32 years of perspective a bit more valid than some Governor in Florida who can't even pronounce guacamole.

IMHO.

I don't know if I'd say specifically that he's "defending" Trump. It's pretty clear he doesn't like him at all, but I think the point he was trying to make was that the red voters, who are also Graham's voters, think he was a decent president, regardless of what he thinks, and that that is the reality. Now I don't agree with that but almost from a lawyerly perspective it makes sense, that slightly less than half of this country is filled with deluded wackos. And the way the US works is that these m0rons get a vote, so regardless of what he says as one politician, they will vote whomever they "think" is "best". It almost sounded to me like Graham wants democrats to do better so that less crazy red voters elect less crazy people like Trump. Kinda passing the buck to democrats, but I could see how he might think that.

Lindsey was joking about the fact that getting along with Al would hurt him with his base and could hurt his career. I respect the attempts on both parts to reach across the aisle. The fact of the matter is that his base has no desire to coexist and he plays to that on a professional level. They think that LGBTQ+ rights and women's rights are persecution against them. It's hard to be civil and peaceful with someone who would throw you to rabid dogs without a moment's hesitation.

Claiming that conservatives believe that equal rights are seen as a form of conservative persecution is a mischaracterization of their concerns.
