I think I'm going to upgrade to this from my SMH10. I've had it for 4 years now and it still works great but I like the upgraded profile and phone App control plus better speakers and everything else. Revzilla is the best place for motorcycle accessories! Anthony's videos are the best hands down. So many of my Revzilla purchases were due to his vids. I've bought items I normally wouldn't have unless seeing them first in person because of Anthony's very detailed description. Revzilla has nailed the old fashioned customer service philosophy! Thank you for explaining the differences between the 10S and all the other Sena systems! I was having trouble breaking it down. Glad I got the 20S, but the 10S would definitely have been fine. Not sure if I would have been happy with the 10U or 10R.

Now from an end user's point of view. I bought 2 10S dual packs, both new. The documentation was in many languages, but not English. I got the devices to power on, and they receive static PERFECTLY. That's it. The web site was no help. I repeatedly tried to contact support. They are apparently unable to communicate in English. I tried emailing support. No response. I did reach them through social media. They referred me to their web site, and sent me documentation that has no bearing on the 10S. Supposedly, these come pre-paired. These did not. Even the radio won't turn on. These were purchased through different dealers on different dates. Among the items missing from the box are the adhesive pads and the wrench. The speakers will not stick to my helmets. Worse yet, the clips do not hold the units in place. Even when clipped into place, they fall out with a gentle shake of the helmet. This isn't just one. All 4 exhibit these issues. Wednesday will be 2 weeks I've been trying to get support from sena. I am forced to return these expensive paperweights.

The published range on these units is overstated. I have the Sena 20S. My riding buddy and I usually get about 1500 feet over open flat terrain before the 20S units lose contact. If the 10S is a lower power/shorter range unit, I would plan accordingly. I should note that the Sena 20S is not waterproof, and the review makes no comment about the water-resistance of the Sena 10S. One other thought -- the review did not say whether the Sena 10S works with a Sena Prism camera in the same manner as the 20S. For the price difference (as currently published at Revzilla.com) and the capabilities, I would recommend the Sena 20S over this 10S.

The 10S pairs well with IOS and Galaxy phones. It also has much better sound quality than SMH10. The only issue I have run onto it with the 10S it will not pair properly to my 2013 or 2015 Triumph's Trophy radio. It connects for one to two seconds then drops out for eight seconds then reconnects before dropping out again. I have to use my SMH10 module with the 10S speaker mount when riding my Triumph. My wife uses the 10S on her Victory Cross Country with earbuds when riding with 3/4 qtr helmet. With the 10S mount, I get better sound quality but loose the intercom range. My wife and I can communicate about 30 bikes back with the 10S which gives us twice the distance than the SMH10s.

The 10S is incompatible with Samsung S7 and Android 7.0. Sena makes the unit work when it is first released then as you update your phone it doesn't work anymore with bluetooth apps.

I bought a new Sedici helmet with flip down dark visor which, operates very closely to the Sena 10 S mount. I worry that I could accidentally disconnect the 10 S while driving down the highway and have it end up on the road. The 10 S mounts nicely BUT should have a 'lock' on it to secure it more safely. When suggesting that to Sena they were totally apathetic to my suggestion. If I ever buy another communicator I doubt that it will be with THIS company.

I have a 10S as does one of my friends and it DOES NOT have a 1 mile range as advertised. It's pretty solid at half a mile, and we were on flat terrain, withing line of sight way out on flat open desert. It's a great unit and better than the SMH10.

You can share music from one unit to another, but I've not actually tried to talk and listen to music. I sometimes will listen to music if riding alone. 1/2 mile range is all I could get too.

So, I solved the Problem with the INDIAN Ride Command. The current software of the 10s is version 1.3 I'm back to version 1.1.1 and everything works fine. I guess that's a general Problem with Sena-Headsets. They make improvements for a brand and destroy the settings for other brands. With Sena 20s the same thing! Current Software 1.7 and 1.5 works.

As always a brilliant review. You didn't mention the 10c (which i assume counts as the same line of products as it has a 10 in the name). What I would love to know is how the blue tooth communicator is effected by including the camera, i.e. is the 10c as good a comms device as the 10s or is it a compromise to allow the use of a camera? keep up the good work!

This unit is FAR to easy to accidentally touch and have the unit fall OFF. I communicated this to the makers and they seemed rather indifferent to that problem. There really needs to be a 'fail safe' as these communicators are NOT cheap!

I don't think that audio jack he said is for your own speakers is an output. The manual says it's for plugging in an audio cable coming from a standard audio source like the audio jack of your phone or any audio source.

This unit is pretty nice - lots of functionality. Range is definitely nowhere near advertised. Size creates a ton of drag/wind noise. This unit (10s) will NOT fit the Airframe Pro from Icon! That being said it has a ton of features and is remarkably easy to use (except group intercom - that is remarkably complex and inconsistent to use). ymmv.

Picking up on the question regarding any 10C compromises over the 10S...What about battery life? What does use as a communicator and camera at the same time do to battery life relative to the 10S? I love the concept of the 10C, but do very long days and battery life is a concern. My current SMH10 battery life does pretty well. If the 10C with the camera held up as well, that would be very tempting.

+Johnatmh The 10C actually has a larger battery than the 10S, but it does have to power both the camera and communicator. You have 17 hours talk time or 2 hours of video recording time with the 10C, so video recording will reduce the overall talk time. If you like your SMH10 and still want to record video, you may consider getting the Sena Prism. The biggest difference between the two is that the 20S has audio multitasking. For those occasions that you do want to talk to friends in the future, you can still listen to music while chatting with your friends. With the 10S, your music is paused during intercom conversations. Defective isn't a factor with the "Unopened" section of the Return Policy. Defective is something we would help you get straightened out either through us or the manufacturer. What we are referring to is those that order it, take it for a test ride and then return it because they didn't like it. Ok so what would be the best. I do a lot of atving in mud and water. I am using gopro hero 2 and am thinking about upgrading to the gopro hero 3 so I can get the sena backpack to make the sound much better for my video's. I would need a head set for the wife and I and may get more in our group to get headsets for communication purposes. What headsets (combo) would be the best for this. I just responded to your Disqus question, but I'll mirror my response here: technically, you could use a stereo splitter cable with the audio out jack and plug two sets of speakers/earbuds into the splitter, but that doesn't accommodate a microphone for passenger communication. We haven't tested it, as it's not really a practical or recommended use of the system. -DrewZilla

If most of your riding buddies have Sena, go with Sena. Otherwise, I would lean towards the SmartPack for its Dynamic Mesh Connection functionality. Others on your group rides would need to have a SmartPack or PackTalk to use that feature though. Otherwise, you would just use the SmartPack's standard Bluetooth intercom connection. -DrewZilla

Sena's "Audio Multitasking" feature is only available on their 20S. With all other Sena communicators, intercom conversations interrupt/pause any music. -DrewZilla

These devices don't need phones for intercom communication. If you want to answer phone calls or listen to music, you can use one phone or two phones. If only using one phone, the phone is connected to User A, and then User A shares the music or a phone call to User B. User B is not connected directly to the phone. User A acts as the hub and controls the phone/music. You can also use two phones. User A is paired with Phone 1, and User B is paired with Phone 2. Each user listens to and controls his/her own music and phone calls, but Users A and B are still paired with each other for intercom communication. Hopefully this isn't too confusing! -DrewZilla

How are you supposed to control all these button commands with gloves on? And the thing attached to my helmet gets stuck on my jacket when I turn my head. Buyers remorse… going to try it once more but prob return or sell :(

Using the buttons with gloves on will become muscle memory after a bit, hence why so many riders don't have issues with it out on the road. You can also opt for other brands that have voice activation or gesture settings if that is what you are into. As for turning your head, might help to adjust where this unit sits on the helmet or use the adhesive mount instead of the clamp mount, which will allow you to move it higher on the helmet. Otherwise it has more to do with posture, shoulder height, and distance between the bottom of the helmet and the top of shoulder/jacket which is more rider specific than something a generic answer would fix. I just bought mine today and everything works fine, however the max volume is so low! I have a relatively quiet bike, stock exhaust, and I have trouble hearing my music barely going street speed limit. Anybody having the same problem?? Please help

Make sure the speakers are as close to your ears as is comfortable. Use the included Velcro spacers if necessary. Make sure the volume on your phone is turned up as well. Also make sure you have the latest firmware via the Sena Device Manager software. -DrewZilla

No, the 10S does not allow audio multitasking. The music is paused when initiating an intercom conversation. Unfortunately, no. However, that is the case with most/if not all Sena's as they don't specifically guarantee waterproofing, but everybody who rides with them knows that they will shut down in a downpour (after a while of riding) and then they power back on after they dry out. I rode with one through 5 hours of hard hard rain and it only turned off in the last hour then had no issue powering back on the next day. Sena just doesn't guarantee the waterproof since the jog dial can allow water in. +TheFroztking No, the 10U will not work inside the Variant, so the best low-profile option for the Variant is the 10R. As for listening to music simultaneously while using the intercom, that's called "Audio Multitasking", and only the 20S has that feature. For the 10S, 10R, and 10U, your music will be paused when you initiate an intercom conversation. You can definitely mount a 20S on the Variant. -DrewZilla

Universal pairing isn't able to take advantage of the full range of each unit, because universal pairing uses the standard Bluetooth protocol.
