I tried to call a local pizza place to order pizza today. My phone company told me I should call Dominos instead, but I declined. Thankfully, the phone company let me call who I wanted anyway, for an additional $0.99 per minute. Future's lookin' p. good. Thanks Mississippi.
@blue_tetris7 жыл бұрын
Nah. This is just what it'd be like to let companies control whom you can talk to and when, using the Internet. Old people understand how the phone works and they wouldn't tolerate this kind of re-routing, charging, and monopolization of such a fundamental modern utility, if they knew shit-all about the Internet.

This didn't happen before NN was implemented why would it happen now?
@calvinteh32977 жыл бұрын
I think it'd be better to say the phone company makes you wait 5 minutes before connecting you to your local pizza place unless they pay $99 a month. That's what started Net Neutrality movement. Internet companies slowed Netflix traffic until they paid even though internet users were already paying internet fees. ISP get to double dip from internet users and content providers.
@blue_tetris7 жыл бұрын
Right. But they can do whatever they please, ultimately. They could slow down your connection, re-route it, prevent it entirely, etc. They'll have as much competition as a water company (none), but without the slightest regulation that comes with being a necessary utility.

One word for americans-REVOLUTION. Digital revolution. Other way is to stop spending, stop hypnotized consumer and break overspending, buying addiction. Imho that is impossible... The fact that so few Congressfolks have stood up for an issue like this that will directly impact their own campaigns. Unreal.
@joelpettit257 жыл бұрын
Of course the primary issue is that cable companies have been given virtual monopolies in a given area. Why not disallow these monopolies?
@joelpettit257 жыл бұрын
I just don't understand why we're comfortable granting virtual monopolies to cable companies/isps within a given area. Why not have more access and disallow these monopolies that have been granted to these companies?
@humanbear47 жыл бұрын
The problem is, is that they gut companies who try to compete with them. In Canada for example, you get a maximum of three choices of phone companies that control the country. The federal government can't do anything about it because the law says that as long as there is a minimum of 3 companies, it's not considered a monopoly. I can imagine it's similar in the U.S. The only way to stop it is to change the law for major companies who hold a monopoly. This has been a problem in the U.S since John D. Rockefeller, and no law has been put in place since then to prevent more monopolies.

I don’t quite understand how it’s any different than the past, Comcast has always charged more for faster speeds... at least here in Utah.
@kraboo687 жыл бұрын
It's not just internet speeds, if net neutrality is removed you'll have to pay to search on the internet, you'll have to pay to watch Netflix and KZbin, pretty much the entire internet will cost money.
@spidertager7 жыл бұрын
So let’s say you’re paying $90 for internet service but then you want to watch KZbin and a screen pops up that you have to pay a $10 fee every month to use KZbin They can pretty much do this with anything

I have great respect for my Senator. He's a Center of Left reasonable adult invested with immense pragmatic wisdom, which appeals to centrists and independents. He has a proud history of kicking the VA, DoD OTSG and Army MEDCOM in the ass on behalf of us vets, and common sense military spending. He doesn't have to look or sound like a rockstar or demogogue. Just continue to do his job professionally and competently for We The People of Oregon and the United States without selling his soul to religion, party, or the rich. Oregonians don't want him to go on to be a presidential contender, we just want to keep him right where he is.

Every email counts if it has digital currency lobbying for profit, not net neutrality, we see it like that in europe, corporate lobbyists conquered american democracy from Reagan to Trump. Just like Corporate lobbyists conquered chinese hard comunism. Idealism and believe, trust, faith are sold for few dollars.

I imagine that it would have to go through the US courts. That could take a while, especially if it needs to go through the Supreme Court. After that I think only the next Presidential elections will be able to effectively overturn it if it passes through the SC.
@WindFireAllThatKindOfThing7 жыл бұрын
By putting legislation on the floor to have the Internet regulated as a "Title II" public utility. This was the plan a couple years ago, but the Republican majority in the house killed any hope of that before it would ever reach the Senate. They have to time it so it's either a Democratic majority (with none of those democrats on ComCasts payroll) or they have to find Republicans in both the upper and lower house to agree to vote for it. Good luck with that today. Show me a single republican who isn't indebted to Telecom donors and lobbyists, to say nothing of the "President" who appointed Pai in the first place.

It started with The Net Neutrality as the title said it and it went south. Why cant we keep it on the topic VICE... Then news companies (like yourself) wonder why the people hate what you do. Because instead of staying on the topic at hand you have to trow the president under the bus. Not that I like or dislike him. Its because you cant be none bias about it.

The phone company decides who I can call and who I can text. The post office decides who I can mail to. So of course ISPs should decide who I can contact.
