Although my preference is for the Typhoon, I have to say that the following is hugely impressive: 7:30, it starts whistling then creeps forward; 7:37 after only (seemingly) a plane's-length, the roar is enhanced by the fiery glow; eight more seconds, and the front wheel lifts; another 2 and there is no more need for runway... Astonishing. And, or course, thanks Nikos/Ted for being there to present the Raptor spectacle as a digest. 👍👍👍

Now that's a sight you dont see every day ! And an unfamilliar sound I've never heard in person. Reading Nikos' stats sheet, in afterburner that's 70,000 lbs of thrust, giving the Raptor a thrust to weight ratio of just over 1.6. Utterly insane. The exaust pipes look like a pair of squinting eyes 👁👁 The drop tanks look the same as those used on F-16C/D, if I'm not mistaken. Does AK on the (not quite) vertical stab.s indicate Anchorage ? Admiring the RAM paint glinting in the sunlight, fascinating how many shades of grey there are ! The plane looks like it's wrought out of forged iron.
@TedConingsby4 ай бұрын
Oii oiii Trespire, a rare sight in the UK and what a sound they make. They have a very distinct sound, a howl and they sit very low too, makes me think they also went for looks on this aircraft (not that does anything for combat). The power stats are unbelievable with 70,000lbs of thrust and I didn’t know the thrust vectors move independently too, which means it can do some crazy things in the air. Thanks for your input 🤙🏼have a great day

@@TedConingsby Thanks Nikos. The nozzles can vector the thust in the up-down plane (one angle of degree). This has a huge effect on pitch control. This techlology is a direct follow on from the X-31 experimental plane from the 1990's. If you haven't seen the X-31 perform insane moves, it's worth a watch. United States F-22 Raptors blast their afterburners and thunder into the overcast sky. Rising rapidly like wrong-way comets, trailing fire, smoke, and mayhem, and bellowing like mythical beasts, they swerve brilliantly to the east, penetrate the soapy clouds and disappear from view. They are going to war. The F-22 is the pinnacle of fighter aircraft, as beautiful as it is deadly, like the raptors for which it is named; masterpiece of art, design, and destruction; cloaked in near invisibility, it has no equal in the war-torn sky. This is the ultimate predator, besting nature at its own game, flying higher, further, and faster, while leaving behind nothing but the fleeting image of its swift disappearance.
