If you don't want roller lint, try a redtree 3/16 nap mini-mohair roller. I use them for epoxy paint like Alexseal that has agressive solvents, and they last pretty well. UHMWPE plastic works well for trailer bunks and other things that need to slide. Thanks for the tip on scoring the tape. I'm using Dynel and graphite filled epoxy for the same purpose on a wooden kayak skeg, and getting that tape off was a bear.

You need a roller knap that is made for solvent based paints. It also helps if you wrap painters tape around the entire nap and pull it to de-shed the Knap prior to use.

@@SendItJonBoats yeah, I dealt with the same problem every time I would use oil based products. Usually it’s not a problem when you spray oils on, but when you roll them, there are specific roller naps that are for latex/water based paints, and others for oil/solvent based products. The latex naps will shed like crazy in oil paints. Took me a long time to figure that one out.

I had the floats welded on cost over $500.00 he did a perfect job I cut the handles off the back so nothing can be tied off or snagged on them also changed the drain plugs to type you tighten with a wrench ! Bonds to fiberglass so long as it is properly prepped. I have not tested it for abrasion but I know the airboat guys have been using it for years and they say it works well. It will need to be touched up in the future but that is easy, clean, scuff, and put on another coat.
@chevyon37s3 жыл бұрын
It does fairly well if you keep in mind it’s a sacrificial coating, and you will have to reapply eventually dependent on use. I have 2 years on my fiberglass layout boat bottom, and I think I did 3 coats of just gatorglide (no gator base) on top of the gel coat after sanding it. And I have minimal wear through on one spot and a few scratches from rocks. I drag the boat over dry land a bit and I didn’t notice any real reduction in difficulty to drag it, but it’s easier to slide on and off my trailer for sure. Personally I probably wouldn’t put it on a wave runner unless you really beach it every single time you ride it to a sandbar or something, but even then. You’ll either be recoating gator glide or gel coat at some point.

The effort and education was very well done and helped me tremendously in my personal research of protecting my investment. Yamaha has this material that they refer to as nano cell. From what the other yamaha pwc owners have shared with their experience with the stuff, it has some real bad issues. Ive seen it delaminate in sections so big it's scary. If you get a small hole, the pressure from the water getting in the hole while riding has made it disentegrate terribly. You may get other owners like myself looking for a solution. Im more in tune with a preventative maintenance Solution to a future would be problem. Yamaha has a serious issue with the malfuntioning properties of their nano hulls. My problem is I have a small leak on the bottom of the boat somewhere. I've tried to repair it with silicone and it worked to a degree but did not seal it completely. Because the boat goes pretty fast the water friction on the bottom of the boat is high. I'm looking for a liquid application like solvent or paint. What product do you recommend that would permanently fix the leak.

Why are most jon boats "roller" painted as opposed to sprayed? You would assume that because of the uneven surfaces on a jon, spray would almost always be the application method of choice.
@SendItJonBoats2 жыл бұрын
I have no clue, They only provided instructions for rolling, if I could have sprayed it I would have.

Hey just checking does this stuff work to seal rivets?? And is it pretty hard and tough when you’re done? Not to be a scooter but wanted to make sure before I buy some
@SendItJonBoats3 жыл бұрын
It is not made to seal rivets, and I do not recommend any goop, slop, paint, roll on, stick icky, gluey junk to seal bad rivets. Drill the bad rivet out, put a new one in and do it right.

Why did you pick gator glide over wet lander or another product
@SendItJonBoats3 жыл бұрын
I used it in the past, and I hear nothing but good stuff about it, so I tried it again. Glad I did, works great.
