Hey guys! In the past year I got loads of questions about this trick, and now it's finally time to give you a full break down. Check out this hydrofoiling "Around the world" A.K.A. "Kite360" tutorial!
This trick went viral about a year ago for one simple reason. It seems like the rider is defying the laws of physic when the kite keeps on flying even though it's upwind of the rider.
When giving this trick a try there is one major tip to remember.
SPEED = Your Friend!

Nice one dude. How did you think this up? Great job thinking outside of the wind window 😉 It's been super fun trying it out, loads of crashes with a handful of makes.

Cant claim that I'm the one that invented this trick unfortunately 😅 about 3 years before I did it I saw a video from a foil racer who did it. After that it was just replicating it. There is quite a bit of swimming involved but loads of fun as you say. And once you know the trick it's so easy to do in a range of conditions

@@stevenakkersdijk no, need shorter lines and much more skill. But then entry into this trick instantly reminded me some of my first attempts at basic downwind jibs - i'd fail to turn quick and instead ride way behind the kite. Do you think around-the-world doable on 23m lines 9m kite and Mosess 633 wings with 91cm mast?

Thank you! Not only is this super helpful for learning the around-the-world trick, it might be one of the best how-to kite videos I've seen yet. Other kitesurfing content creators should take notes! I'd love to see a how-to video on strapless foil aerials if you feel motivated.

Thanks Max! That's awesome to hear. I've been wanting to do more strapless videos, but as my follower base is mostly twintipping that has had priority. But it's on the mediaplan for this year.

Great Job! I got three questions: 1. What type of kite is recommended fot that trick? 2. Did you put together the 14 meter lines via Extensions? Or where does one find 14m lines? 3. Do you feel pull on the harness during the complete turn? 🙂🙋‍♂️🙋‍♂️
@stevenakkersdijk
@stevenakkersdijk Жыл бұрын
I recommend to use a 3 strut kite as they have a bit of weight and momentum on them to go through the upwind part of the turn. If you have a no strut on single strut kite the wind tends to catch them en flop them around (you see it a lot when Fred Hope does them) I got custom lines from CORE, you can probably order some online with a kite shop or repair center. Currently I ride the foil bar from CORE and the shortest you can go is 16m. This is actually a very nice length to ride with. There is always some "pull" on the harness if you do this trick correct. But the difference is that halfway through the turn you start pulling the kite instead of the other way around. Hope this helps.

@@stevenakkersdijk "Halfway through the turn you pull the kite instead of the kite you" lovin' it! haha. I remember people philosophizing about the size of the kite and the wind conditions (like diving the kite via the kite loop inside an area that is protected and not receiving wind ..) .. any of that matter?

@stevenakkersdijk

Thank you. I do find it slightly easier in lighter winds, but that's from a base wind of 12 knots I would say. Under that it actually gets harder

@@stevenakkersdijk its a lot more fun and less scary than i thought. Didnt complete one yet, but progress was made. I tried with 9m xlite on 15m lines. Wind was a little stronger than I'd hoped for. Very strange feeling to have the kite completely upwind of you. Managed to pass the 180 mark once. It's a time consuming trick to learn tho. 3 fails every 10 minutes makes for slow progress. Lets see what today brings.

Hey Steven, nice video. Any chance we could get some strapless skimboard tricks? I haven’t seen any footage of you on your skim in a while.
@stevenakkersdijk
@stevenakkersdijk 5 жыл бұрын
I like that thought! It's true I haven't been riding a lot of skimboard lately. This is mainly because the 720 from replaced my skimboard in my personal quiver. Mainly due to the fact that I'm more often riding in waves and not that much in Workum (flat water spot) any more. But I'll get you some strapless tricks with the surfboard that you could also try on the Skim ;-) Deal?
