Sendo with his Background story would have been a better hero and Main Character for the anime than ippo and it's just so unfair to make him lose twice against ippo but he did got stronger than ippo after beating Gonzalez and scoring a down against Ricardo.

Insulting someone's rival indirectly insults that person as well. Ippo's desire is to find out what strength really is so he can be reborn as a better person while Sendo wants to be the strongest in a similar way to a warrior of justice that wants to protect and BOTH really love boxing. So I can't say any of them is bad.
