Well, today I was walking down the road and was thinking "I have never slapped a goat" next minute there is a Goat in a yard behind the fence, then, right then I realised, "chill out"

Seneca, for me, is the most powerful of the ancient Stoics.

One of my favorite books of all time. Seneca's ultimate advice is to retire into your study and read philosophy so that you can teach others the best way to live and the best way to die. Ryan is already doing it, I guess. Love these little videos from the Daily Stoic.✌️

This is one of the best messages in Stoicism. I've been telling my family and friends for years now... Life is all about today! Nothing wrong with making plans for all your tomorrows. But, if you spend most of your time planning and worrying about those tomorrows, then you've missed today! Today is all you got! Today is your life! Make it a great day, and when tomorrow comes, if it comes, make that day a great day! I often say now... "Monday by any other name is still today, and today is the only day that matters" Thank you Ryan for your insight and sharing Stoicism with all of us.

Today I was posting on social media about my need to say "Thank You" for all that I have more ferociously, frequently and fervently. The mood for gratitude. Then I clicked on this video. I know many, if not all of you chagrin using social media, to each his own. However this message reminds me of something from my days as a young soldier, how death can seek us out at any moment, since we're here to also deal death. Be grateful, enjoy the moment were in and live abundantly.

Exactly, it all comes down to balance, you need money but not an extreme amount of it otherwise your life becomes the pursuit of that and before you know it, it’s too late to enjoy all the other great things.

Sometimes we die before the death comes..but there is some higher force within that awakens you to live this life and then there is NO more fear of death, infact death become a blessing that nothing is permanent and EVERYTHING will come to END. I am grateful for this life and I will ensure that I am ALIVE live this life

Love the video. However I find it incredibly hard to live according to this philosophy. How do you actually implement it? It seems like I watch something like this but inedibly fall back into the same wasteful actions.

A lot of the process is monitoring your behaviour and noticing it. You aren't going to magically have complete control over yourself all of a sudden, but if you can start identifying triggers for negative action and thought that can help you get ahead of things. One really important mantra that can be helpful is "this too shall pass." When you are feeling sucked in by an emotion or a desire to act in a certain way, remember you are in a temporary mindset that will pass. Try to weather the individual storms and forgive your own failures to do so when you can't.

Have you tried talking to anyone about that? It's very surprising to many people how many people actually do care about them. Avoiding their pain at losing you can be enough to push on.

Daily Stoic I know they care. I have a lot of misplaced emotions and intrusive thoughts, and it’s hard to be forgiving of your own shortcomings. Thank you for replying.

Forgiving yourself can be very hard. It's really important to remember that there is no reason to worry about "being something." We're all nothing. The greatest people in history will be forgotten one day, the most amazing pieces of art, music, architecture will disappear, all that we really are is contained in each moment. If you can try to make the best choices you are happy with in each moment, you are doing alright. The past is forgotten, the future is a myth. In each moment you have a choice to experience life as the person you want to be would, or not. It's both as easy as that and one of the most difficult things to do, so if it seems hard, don't beat yourself up, just keep trying.
