Hi, Ειρήνη! Thank you a lot for these useful videos! I am a former student of Latin in High School currently teaching Latin and classic Greek to young students, helping them pass official exams with flying colours (I hope so!). I'm so proud of my High School teacher (Raúl), who taught me not only the 'rudimenta' of this wonderful language, but also inspired me to love and respect the timeless heritage of the Classic culture. This is what I'm precisely trying to inculcate into my students every day. Salve ex Hispania! Multas gratias tibi ago!

Hello ! Thank you so much for your wonderful work ! I’m very partial to your podcasts, but this format is just excellent to learn Latin : the combination of hearing you speak, seeing your facial expressions and gestures, and having an actual text is marvelous. If you want to do more, I’ll be delighted to see them ! Love from Paris.

Hi Esmée, thank you for your appreciation and feedback! I agree with you that this format is very useful and I know it's appreciated, I will try to do more of this kind - the problem is they require lots of time, and I don't have as much as I would like to have these days... but more will come in the future! Have you already downloaded this reading of Catullus? It's the same format: pages.saturalanx.eu/catullus-carme/

Thank you so much for your work! I am a beginner in Latin after years of wanting to learn, and I'm very interested in Stoic philosophy too. I love that you have simplified Seneca's text to make it comprehensible even for me! It is a pleasure to listen to you.

Oh thanks, Marni! I am really glad that you were able to understand this text being a beginner! I don't know much of the "modern" Stoicism, but for what I could read in ancient texts, it is really interesting indeed - one cannot believe that things written so long ago are still so meaningful for us 21th century humans...

Thank you for this video, it's a real pleasure to listen to it ! However I have a question about the verb "impendēre", should it not have been "impendĕre" ? I've looked up in different dictionaries and they all say that "impendeō, -ēre" means: ergersi, stare sopra, sovrastare pendendo; pesare, incombere, sovrastare, minacciare. Whereas "impendō , -ĕre" means pagare, sborsare, spendere; ... Which would make more sense in this context to me.

Yes, that's really vague in the text (which Seneca made on purpose, I guess), but I think it's as you wrote; and, maybe, it also refers to anything done without being fully aware of what we're doing.

14:35 Non intellego cur "scribis" sit. Nonne Seneca auctor est? Cur non est "fac ergo id quod scribo te facere"? Quid Lucilius scripsit? Scribitne Lucilius ad se ipsum?
@SaturaLanx3 жыл бұрын
Lucilius videlicet respondebat epistulis a Seneca missis, ergo hic Seneca significat epistulam (vel epistulas) quam antea ei miserat Lucilius, et ad quam haec epistula est responsum. Satisne clarum?

Why are you not reading the letter? I came here to hear you read the letter of Seneca’s you have on the screen. You finally read the first sentence at 3:18 then repeated same words you repeated in the first 3 minutes of video. I’m sure there is a good reason and I will feel silly after you explain....Thank you!

Hi! This is not just a reading but an educational video, where I read through and explain a simplified version of Seneca's letter I adapted for beginners, inspired by the book "Familia Romana" by H. Orberg. In the video, I start with an introduction to contextualise the letter within the works by Seneca and his life, and during the video I read one sentence, then I explain it, then move on to the next one... which explains the repetitions. Hope this answers your question! (You find other lessons of this kind in my channel, where I read texts by Cicero and Pliny the Elder).
