“It’s not that life is short, it’s that we waste a lot of it”- I’ve been biting my nails scared to getting older (I’ll be 24 in about 2 months). And this quote resonated so well with me, I’ve been afraid of running out of time because I think I don’t have much time left. But this fear of losing time has been making me waste time… this is such a vicious cycle. Thank you for this amazing video! 😊💙

Hi Sia, take a moment to read my comment above. It's about my take and views on time and potentiality. I am just a normal guy, who loves to understand the elements and dynamics of reality. I do have a business, and my greatest challenge has been time availability. In my particular situation, I feel obligated to be there for so many family members who are needy and they drain me of my time and energy, so I am left with not enough of myself to grow my business. At the same time, I enjoy being with family and it feels good to know that I was there for them when it mattered, I might never get that chance again. So what I am trying to say is, that spending time and helping the people that matter to you, that you love will count for more at the end of your life. In our last days, we are more likely to regret not enjoying life enough, not connecting enough with our hearts. This is what makes us feel more alive, more than the dopamine that comes with winning, popularity and addictions. What really counts is the meaningful energy, love, and joy, these are the things that invigorate and nurture our souls. Positive energy. The brain chemical for love is oxytocin but produced naturally when we put our hearts in the right place, live for love and joy. It gets tricky because its in the same arena of pleasure, where many get addicted. We're emotional beings, but try to be a bit more rational more than emotional, to keep your inner drama in check. Well, nice chatting. Goodluck.

Gallio and Paul the Apostle According to the Acts of the Apostles, when Gallio was proconsul of Achaea, Paul the Apostle was brought in front of him by Sosthenes, head of the local synagogue, with the accusation of having violated the Roman Law of religious tolerance. Gallio, however, was indifferent towards religious disputes between the Jews and Jewish Christians; therefore, he dismissed the charges against Paul (denegatio actionis) and had both him and the Jews removed from the Court (Acts 18:12-17). Gallio's tenure can be fairly accurately dated to between AD 51-52.[5] Therefore, the events of Acts 18 can be dated to this period. This is significant because it is the most accurately known date in the life of Paul.[6]

I just wanted to say thank you Ryan, I have been practising (loosely) stoicism for a few years, and found it helps me. But, last Christmas and New Year Covid nearly killed me, and in early January, I could barely breath, barely walk, barely read or write. Today as I close in on the anniversary of catching the virus, I am not sad, unhappy or dwelling on the past - I still have some health challenges that is the extremes of covid disease. But I have read many books this year, practiced hard, and read hard, and written lots. In March, having learnt to walk in Jan, I ran a mile, in June I ran 10 miles, and in September I went both half marathon distance, and did a competitive mile. My mile time was still poor, but I did it - I need to recover 30 seconds to be back to pre-covid. But my half marathon time was not far off - around six minutes or so a 1:43. My best since passing 40 being 1:37 - so not the end of the world. This does work, focus on being the best version of yourself, and thank you Ryan for personally inspiring me to keep reading my Daily Stoic, keep journalling and keep pushing myself. I hope your family and you enjoy Christmas and the New Year. Best wishes.

One thing I realised after reflecting on my years in senior high school, college, and university that I think can also be applied here is how if we want to continuously improve ourselves, we should always try to find people who are (1) better than us (i.e. mentors, teachers, elders) so that we can learn from them, (2) people who are not as good as us (i.e. juniors, younger people, less skilled than us) so that we can teach them, and (3) people who are the equal of us so that we can challenge ourselves with them. Also, thank you Ryan for sharing these little treasures of Stoic wisdom! They are thought-provoking and great reminders for me to continuously reflect on, and I find they are also very consistent with Chinese philosophy

Summary of Seneca's 8 Tips For Mastering Yourself: 1. Seek Challenges: Embrace difficult tasks and challenges to improve yourself mentally and physically. 2. Focus on Your Response: Instead of being overwhelmed by adversity, concentrate on how you respond to challenges and turn them into opportunities for growth. 3. Choose Your Influences Wisely: Surround yourself with positive and inspiring role models, as well as friends who will support your personal development. 4. Be a Master of Yourself: Emphasize self-discipline and self-improvement, without imposing your views on others. 5. Say Yes to What Matters: Prioritize essential tasks and goals, and learn to say no to non-essential distractions. 6. Do the Hard Things: Train yourself mentally and physically to handle adversity and push through difficulties. 7. Protect Your Time: Value and manage your time effectively, as it is a finite and invaluable resource. 8. Make Others Better: Be a positive influence on others, inspire and help them grow, and contribute positively to your community. Action Steps: 1. Seek out challenging tasks and activities regularly to improve yourself. 2. When faced with difficulties, focus on how you can respond positively and turn them into opportunities for growth. 3. Be mindful of the influences in your life and surround yourself with positive role models and supportive friends. 4. Engage in self-discipline and self-improvement without imposing your views on others. 5. Prioritize essential tasks and say no to distractions that do not align with your goals. 6. Train yourself mentally and physically to build resilience and face adversity with determination. 7. Value and manage your time effectively, recognizing its finite nature and the importance of using it wisely. 8. Be an inspiration to others and contribute positively to the well-being of your community. Quotes by Seneca: "The purpose of philosophy is to make you better, not to make you more judgmental or feel superior to others." "Happy is he who makes others better." More Suggestions: 1. Take up challenging tasks or activities regularly to push your boundaries and develop mental and physical resilience. 2. Reflect on how you respond to difficult situations and find ways to turn challenges into opportunities for personal growth. 3. Assess the influences in your life and surround yourself with positive and inspiring individuals. 4. Prioritize your time and focus on essential tasks, saying no to distractions that do not align with your goals. 5. Engage in regular self-discipline and self-improvement efforts without imposing your views on others. 6. Look for opportunities to inspire and help others grow, contributing positively to your community and making a difference in the lives of those around you.

Hey I have a question about the part where you say that you should not put this to the others and it’s called self-discipline for a reason. There is something that I’m not comfortable with about that. I’m a student in engineering and i work quit often with one of my friend that seems to be quit the opposite to me concerning self-discipline at work because he probably « doesn’t » need it due to his grade and it some ways i feel this need to push him so that he doesn’t feel like a weight for me because i absolutely need discipline on my side. He is my friend but certainly not a figure to follow about work, for me. I’m have never been the most clever guy and so i need to be well surrounded to succeed, as a lot of people i imagine. Here, he is a friend, but it could be any random person in the school that would have the same manners as him and you can’t change nothing about it for a given period of time. How are we supposed to deal with this ? Not push them even if the results tend to depend on them too? It’s always very stressful even if the results could be great in the end. It’s a team work, how do you deal with the different approches from everyone even if you have the same goal supposedly? I really struggle to get the answer to that right now and I’m probably the one that needs to change something. Thank you!

Our responsibility for ourselves and the value of integrity, without needing the flowers and fireworks is so meaningful to me. I am also a Christian so am interested in any responses you get as I grow and learn in Faith and Stoicism. I try and have spectacular role models now and from History, just got to work harder on that, not paying too much attention tlor attributing too kuch value to the 'world noise' and negative. 06:09 My take is that I have been blessed with 32 years worth of days. The daily investing in myself (investment) has matured 32 years, my value is worth more and more each day I expand my consciousness and knowledge base. The potentiality of today is worth what my mind allows through my ability to be here and now, on purpose, for a purpose. The more silent and available my mind can be, the more effective I can be at whatever I desire to aim for. Time is a concept, the mind is timeless, yet can be hindered by poor health and poor ideas (thinking). Your potential is just potential until you become aware of it and believe in it, only then will you be empowered in the moment. If you fail to realize your potential, you will not rest easy in the present moment. Our potential wants to be expressed and evolve. When we lack purpose and clarity we will self distract from our state of now and readiness. We give our attention (our value), to the things of comfort and pleasure, to avoid the discomfort and effort of becoming. Becoming is work, a learning experience. Struggle and frustration is a natural part of learning, but not all are cut out for the job of learning advanced knowledge. Our capacities and tolerance are dependent on the early stages of mental development. But that's conceptual and understanding. To make it, all you really need is an appreciation for strategic and realistic thinking and a passion for winning. This will put your mind in gear for success. And learn skills, skills, skills, whatever kind that you are naturally inclined to be good at. Enjoy.
