I wake up early, take the kids to school, go for a walk or jog and then listen to this everyday while I start my day at work. Even if it takes for 3 or 4 hours to get through because of interruptions. 2 years ago I was ready to call it a day in life. I felt like I had nothing.I found stoicism. Now I'm the happiest I've ever been. Because I realized I have enough and I love it all.

Doctor appointment tomorrow. I've got 4 swollen lymph nodes. 1 has been there over a year, the others for over 2 months. I'm scared out of my mind typing this right now. Regardless I'm going to wake in less than 6 hours from now at 4:57am and do my morning reading of "Meditations". All tests have been good except for 1 and that was a positive ANA. I hope it's all good. If it's in my control, it gets 100%, if it's not in my control, it gets 0%.

You keep reminding me who I am. I had forgotten. 8:50 when my son was deployed in Iraq (the first time) I thought the worry would kill me. So I made up a mantra for myself. Every day, sometimes a thousand times a day, I repeated these words: “Worry is a story you tell yourself that never ends well.” (Which means if you’re going to make up a story in your mind, give yourself a happy end to celebrate.) With this and another mantra (“There is no crisis until there is a crisis.” And “I’m great in a crisis.”) every thing turned out okay. This is how I survived every stressful time in my life.

I am currently facing a rough situation of expecting to die in a few months, I was scratched by a stray cat a month ago and I didn't do anything until I felt rabies-like symptoms, tingling on the hand where I was scratched, headaches, etc. after 3 weeks since the scratch, so I went to the doctor and got shots by day 20 since I was scratched, then I was told it might be too late for the shots to take effect and that they aren't 100% sure if it would save me. At first I was sad seeing that I could die in a few months, but since I saw videos of this guy it made me appreciate my time left on this earth, made me more active, made me less sulky, made me do things I wouldn't do before, my life at the moment is like the quote "memento mori", so every second on this earth I try to treasure seeing that I won't be here anymore after 18 years of living . If I do live through this, it will serve as a lesson to guide me through the rest of my life.

Great meditation to start the day- Victor Frankle describes our power as that moment of pause that we have before we respond to a situation. I have all of Vonnegut's books [the full "collection"] and choose to drive a Saab because his father was a Saab dealer and mechanic in Cape Cod. No finer "humanist" in the world than Vonnegut. Vonnegut's writing style is a blend of very mechanical and engineering type descriptions of the universe- anyone who can understand the inner workings of a car engine that runs on a blend of oil and gas has a profound tactile ability. His concept of the Karass and Duprass is timeless and universal.

Some differ with Marcus Aurelius and say that you were NOT "put on this planet to do something" but rather born onto this planet to live. Live the most enjoyable life you can. Even a life which does not work for "the common good" is still a life to be cherished. ANY LIFE is to be worthy of living the way it wants. Whether it be in a science lab or living alone on top a mountain.

Ryan Holiday is a great teacher! Very valuable and I love it! 💯💥 Having said that I do see resistance to this way of thinking in others which I believe can be detrimental. It’s people who create content saying being out of your comfort zone is overrated and harmful. That striving and personal development is old thinking and that we should be free to do whatever. It seems that many people just want an easy life with zero discipline. “Hacks” for everything that is hard. 🤷🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️ Keep doing great work, Ryan!!
