Sengoku BASARA is easily my favourite Musou-style game, especially after 4 Sumeragi. If Capcom were smart, they'd localise it and actually market it this time.

This is the series that made me fell in love with musou. This game made me discover DW, WO, and PW. I wish they will release a new game if not the port version of this game in the future. Ngl, i kinda prefer this character design over KT samurai warrior. Also the move set of each characters in this series are very flashu and unique, it made me wish KT choose quality over quantity when making their next musou games especially Warrior orochi series

So here are something I think you missed: 1/ Cycling the R2 skills up and down separately, switch character, activate rage mode, order assistant can be optionally shortcut for the four directional buttons. And once you use it, the default imput no longer works (except the last one). This is extremely useful if the default imput is too complicate for you. I personally make shortcut for the first four, since they need combination imput and I can do it by accident when I don't want to, while ordering assistant only needed to press a single button in either way 2/ Switching character can be change to Block+X (if I remember correctly. I use the shortcut so much I completely forget) 3/ Yoshihiro special item is NOT one-hit kill/death. It makes his R2 skills become faster, skipping the charging animations 4/ Each stage have two hidden missions, which are the same everytime you play the stage. It can help add more fun when you try to complete them, rather than just rampaging from this point A to point B. And you get exp for reward (Except the Otomo park day time. One mission require you to get blue letter in the first two slot for the slot machine, and red letter for the last one. And as far as I know, it's completely random, since the machine goes way too fast)

Oh gosh, i remember when the Roulett was not optional, they acutally fixed it in a patch to be togable. I hated when i just wanted to f*king play a character, then suddenly i had changed into a bomberman.. :( The main reason i always say Sengoku Basara is my favourite "DW style game" is the gameplay. Complex and in-depth characters, with the best system ins SB4: Weapon fusion and Super Attack switch. Anyway: Thanks for your detailed review as always. Love your channel with honest and sometimes sarcastic reviews (KOEI deserves that!) :) Keep up! I hope you will do Pirate Warriors 4 as well.

Reading that part that Capcom takes inspiration from the Last of Us Part 2 is pretty disheartening especially when looking at RE3. You will never get a character like Kasuga to the west nowadays unless her costume is removed or heavily censored similarly to Juri in SF5.

I imported this game a couple of years ago. While its super fun and one of my favorite Musou style games, I can't get too deep into it as much as I want because of the Japanese. Hoping one they they make another one and it comes out in the West as well.

This probably will sound pretty lame, but I've been waiting for you to review this game for so long now. I bought this so many year back, and it's absolutely the best in the series. I really wish Capcom would have localised it. Hopefully we can get something new/good for the Basara series soon, and not another Yukimura-den.

I made sure all the characters got their personalized inscriptions. The only exception was Ieyasu because his inscription kept his hood on indefinitely which I didn't like.

Oh man I had to give in and order this game off of play Asia.. I was holding out hope they'd port it to the PS4 in english but I've given up. I played the HECK out of the sole PS3 English version they released years ago. I couldn't stop playing! It's the best Musou type game ever made! It was so much better than any Musou game made by Omega Force, it pains me to say that because I've been a Musou addict since Dynasty Warriors 3 on the PS2 and I love all of the Omega Force games. But this game is just phenomenal and to me it's the pinnacle of Musou games. My red headed queen Magoichi is so fun to play as!! I've been trying to learn the menus and stuff so I can play it in Japanese but I know it's going to be so frustrating trying to wade through the menus no really knowing what it says... such a shame. 😢French or Spanish I could cope with the menus but Japanese is sooooooooooo dang hard to decipher! Argh..

Basara is cool. 3 is probably the best place to start for any newcomers since it's the only localized game that didn't get butchered by the changes like Devil Kings. Hope there's more in store in the future for the lineup since the last " big thing" they hyped was a phone game that westerners can't even play without a JP phone or account. How's a phone game harder to access than a console game? lol

I'm playing this again now at the very start at a ps4 version. It's expensive but so worth it for me i can see the textures difference between ps3 and ps4 ver. This game is my favorite game since my childhood. I think that's why I've been a fan of japanese history and culture. And plus GOT have the same aspects of this game and I'm so curious if they got some inspirational stuff in slbasara series. But for everyone who want to play this buy this in an asian account and it will be transferred to your us account. Don't bother with the kanji there's a great website that translate everything within this game and it's very helpful for the fans of this series to play especially the japan only release. You will get the hang of it.

About Shimazu's inscription, it actually removes the delay in performing R2 skills: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3iqaa2GrqyGe9U. Regardless, it is still a funny game. Also, thoughts on Heaven difficulty? It seems that despite the weapon upgrades, there are some high damaging skills done by the enemies.

My bad, i thought his Inscription was just the same as it was in SB3. I only play Heaven difficulty, I wouldn't say it's that hard, but enemy characters are unpredicatable so they can destroy you if you don't know their attacks.

It's actually that his second R2 ability that puts him into an enhanced state like masamune or muneshige which shortens startups and enhances his project special, and the inscription allows you to keep him in that enhanced state rather than continually recharge from the second R2 skill.

This game series is strange, when it first dropped in the USA it was called Devil Kings (pretty much Sengoku Basara) When Capcom made the second game and it's 2.5 version, Capcom never released them outside of Japan. They released the third game it was released outside of Japan it is called Sengoku Basara not Devil Kings. When they made the 3.5 version of the third game, for some reason Capcom kept it in Japan. Once I learned that this game is not going to be released outside of Japan, I gave up on the series. Unfortunately for me, nowadays I gotta be convinced to buy a Capcom game.

My friends, cousins, brothers loved to play both KT Warriors game and Basara.. but most of the time, all of them would pick Basara over KT Warriors Games.. well except for Warrior Orochi, this and Basara kinda a tie, but still in favor of basara.. Reason: 1. Basara has a cleaner graphics, 2. Characters looks cool and fun, 3. Some iconic lines like, "IEYASUUUUUUU!!" 4. Better AI 5. Lots of gameplay features 6. The maps are much simplier, yet more complex in some way 7. There are multiple paths you can take, unlike warriors which are pinned on the exact path true to the story 8. It is a true 1 vs an army game, unlike warriors game that are army vs army (with stupid ai) 9. because of the simple map and path, my friends & families who isnt as good in english can still enjoy, without worrying too much..

Huh? Can you not cancel skill attacks anymore? In Sengoku Basara 3 I would always use Masamune and dash into enemies and hold square before it finishes to immediately do phantom dive before it got done. It would make pretty much any character safe to use until the boss, and in that one if you changed it to Basara boost, you kind of just strong armed whatever was there, especially if you saved 3 charges of it. Though the original Sengoku Basara 3 did not have Basara boost if I recall, I think it was brought over from 2... As long as Musashi isn't going to be a smelly vagina and throw rocks at me until I die then I'm good. I know the first game, the troops were actually stronger than the bosses... One spear troop combo and that's it. But the rewards for playing that game on the worst difficulty were amazing. It really feels like Capcom doesn't want anyone to know about this game. No cross overs, tie ins, guest characters... Maybe it's not historically accurate, but it's fun! And now that a lot of games don't really translate audio, they could just translate the text and sell it. Nah, let's keep remaking resident evil games... REMAKE DEVIL MAY CRY... /salt...

You can still cancel your moves and do DMC tier combos so there's nothing to worry about. Also I agree with it feeling like Capcom doesn't want anyone to play this game. iirc 3 didn't sell enough for them and that was when Inafune was in charge so that might have something to do with it.

You can still do, but depend on each character. It's quicker if it's fast-pace character, or slower if it's slow-pace one. And also depend if the skill can be canceled or not. If you accidentally use non-cancel-able skill, just switch char then switch back

Saying this game has much better combat then SW and DW games made me upset that the game isn't translated ngl. I enjoy SW but the combat is mostly button mashing without much depth and it's only challenging on chaos difficulty which isn't fun because you die after few hits.

If this game had the same kinda game modes as something like samurai warriors 4 DX then it would be the perfect musou to me. I got so burned out playing these maps the exact same way every time with gimmicks that I really didn’t like especially when you have to do that food related map with the beetle guy. Annoying as shit. If it did have modes that remixed what the gimmicks were or which officers were everywhere it would’ve done so much.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. Aside from inscriptions being the opposite of import friendly (but thankfully, there are online guides to deal with weapon crafting, so you can deal with that with your phone in hand), I find the stages in 4 wayy too gimmicky at times. I can't be arsed to play Hideaki's stage, or Yoshiaki's. Unfun gimmicks just make things unpleasant and these story modes are ridden with them. And I do miss unification mode every time they think removing it is a good idea :/ my God, I love the stories in these games (usually... 4 has disappointed me in this regard so far), but sometimes I just wanna play stages without having to listen to these characters being melodramatic and without skipping cutscenes.

Sometimes we gotta a good feeling without reading the story, and the feeling i have is that this game sounds kinda off ? Anyway, it is sumeragi im talking abt so even less ik about the true story line from 4 cause well, its not the original 4. Anyway, i cant read but i love to hear them talking during the game. Somehow it makes me feel like im not alone and makes the game more alive. Cutscenes are always annoying but in SB2 they were more so i don't complain alot abt that.
