I watched my brother take over my mother’s house then her money, then her freedom, I Called elder abuse and they did nothing so I took a video of my mother’s deplorable living conditions. My brother locked up her windows and doors and wouldn’t let anyone get close to her. I broke in and brought her to my home but she lived only three more days. 😢Senior abuse is real and we must protect our elders from greedy family members! Good luck sir.

My brother did the same with my mother and moved around so much I could never find her. He moved her to Florida, a state she disliked and I lived I Wyoming and couldn't afford to travel to hunt her down myself. I found out she passed away from an insurance letter I received in the mail. I haven't spoken to him since he cut her off from me. Hope karma gets him.

Was abused by my half sister. I'm 59, disabled (disability caused by half sister). She insisted I buy all food for myself, her, her boyfriend, and her son. Demanded I babysit her son, even though my disability prevents me from doing that safely. Our common parent (biological mother) sides with her. I paid for things I shouldn't have been forced to pay for, leaving me unable to afford medicine. Family members are more likely to abuse you than strangers.

GATHER EVIDENCE!!!! I don’t live in the US so the system is probably different but I hope I can contribute. Where I live there is a branch of the Public Attorney’s Office specifically addressed to vulnerable communities (particularly children and elderly), I believe it would somewhat correspond to your Adult or Senior Services. Anyone in that group having evidence, or fear, of mistreatment (physical, moral, financial or otherwise) can seek help from them. Red-tape can be brutal so sometimes getting a lawyer may be wise. Tape your conversations, copy paper work and share everything with someone you trust. Keep all receipts and messages, it will make a world of difference. Sometimes it may even be a good idea to call the Police because there will be records. If at all possible, close your bank account that is shared with the abuser and open another one (sometimes it can be done with the same bank, but a different account and access clearances). Keep your friends close. Good luck. And search your mind and records: have you ever given the abuser a power of attorney? If so, have it rescinded through a public notary.

I’ll keep you in my prayers because elder abuse is real. I just reported my own aunt for abusing my 90-year-old grandma, who she’s been living with for years-though it’s my grandma’s house. My aunt had been slipping psych meds into my grandma’s food, trying to make her seem crazy, but it was just the side effects from being overmedicated with medicine my grandma didn’t even need. During these episodes, my aunt would call the police, claiming my grandma was violent, and my poor 90-year-old grandma would be taken away in handcuffs. Imagine that-such a small, elderly woman being thrown into a mental institution when she’s completely sane. Even the psychiatrist said she’s of sound mind. To make it worse, my aunt once drove my grandma to an abandoned, rat-infested house and made her spend the night there just so she could go back to their house to go through my grandma’s personal documents and steal her identity. I hope she goes to jail for a long time. And get this-she has the nerve to be a social worker.

I am going through some thing like that with my oldest son. I'm a 75 year old combat vet, have been in therapy for 17 years for PTSD. It started at the National Center for Post tramadic stress in Medlo Park in California and when I started remembering the things I surpassed I began to brake my teeth out in my dreams at night. So they kept giving more and more meds until I lost my short and long term memory. After a 2 year stay I was moved into VA housing and this is when my son moved in to help me. The rest sounds alot like what happened to your money. I have sense re-gained my memory and I decided to write a book about what gave me that condition. Please, I didn’t mean to offend you. I’m going from my own experience- my mom is also 86 and just loves her grandchildren around her. A family around your grandma could be very healthy and enriching for her- even if she hadn’t been used to it previously. But everyone is different. We caring people have all made sacrifices in our lives, no doubt about this. Guess I was maybe trying to inspire a potentially healthy and positive avenue, better than living in fear of what could happen if anything changes. And I hope you don’t have to wait too many years to start a family of your own. My experience is if you do what is truly best for you, it usually has a positive effect on the loved ones in your life, even if it seems unfamiliar, uncomfortable & difficult for them at first. And when love is the motivator- how can it be anything but helpful for all involved? Always good to or as y to God for guidance. God bless you and your grandma🙏🏼❤️

So sad reading the comments. 😢 I live with my elderly mother and half brother. I'm 50 and disabled and my brother is 31 and healthy able bodied but he won't help around the house and lets my mother do everything for him. Her health isn't the best and she really needs help now. I try to do what I can, i cook for myself, buy my own food, clean up behind myself and pay her rent for living there. He earns good money and hardly gives anything imo. I could move to NZ from the UK and live a better life if i was selfish, but it's my duty to see my mum out and try to repay her for raising me. I have the feeling that my brother thinks I'll do everything for him when my mother passes. He's sorely mistaken. This house will be sold immediately and we will part ways.

I read a book by an FBI profiler from years back. In the book, he touched on elder abuse, stating that as bad as the serial murders were that he would be writing about, it does not compare to elder abuse across our country. Elderly people are abused by every facet of society. They suffer more abuse and neglect than children do. The elderly suffer harm from society in genera plus from their own family. Where a child is abused by one member of the family most often, elderly people can experience abuse from many family members. When a child is harmed, the public takes notice. When elderly people are hurt, society shows little to no concern. What was most shocking was that the elderly were raped by family members, including the men. It controls them into giving up claims to their money and property. Sometimes, a beating and the threat of rape is enough. Sons or grandsons raping one of the parents or grandparents was jaw-dropping to me. The shame of the abuse, coupled with their vulnerable state of dependence, keeps them silent.

They were wonderful parents. 💜 It’s been three years since Mom passed. I miss her more each day!!❤️🙏. She was very smart. I asked her all the time for help and advice. I miss that so much!! I’m so sorry for what you are going through. My brother abused my parents for years. Every time I tried to intervene, I then became the enemy. My dad was on to my brothers tricks…my mom would have turned over every penny they had to my brother if given the chance. My brother deliberately caused my parents to fight with each other. After mom passed, my brother turned up the heat, to get power of attorney and try to keep me and my dad’s sister away from dad. Just a few months before he passed my brother brought a lawyer to dad’s house and changed his will, and finally got POA. My brother then changed all dad’s bank accounts to be joint accounts with his name as sole beneficiary, and I wasn’t even mentioned in the will. During the period of time dad was without mom, my brother used threats to get him to turn more and more money to him. My regrets are not about money, but that I was unable to stop the psychological abuse. My dad would say to me (never to others) that his son is a crook. It was so very very sad.

My son allows his wife and her mother to abuse me. Her mother has hit me for no reason and they steal from me regularly. I called APC, a Social Worker showed up to our house and my DIL became very frightened, telling me that she didn't want any problems. I'm getting my place soon but I have to cancel my medical insurance to be able to afford it. The Word says that the members of your own household will be your worst enemies and this is true for me. I'm going to disinherit my son, and give the $ to my friends who have always been there for me. 😢

Great video, Michael. I'm in my own house.... for now. But I was in hospitals and nursing homes for a year and a half. I wanted to go home to my house, but the "social worker" and the "case worker" dragged their feet while pretending to do their jobs. My problem was that I'd been hit by a car and became paralyzed from the chest down. I've now lived at my home for ten years since fighting my way out of the nursing home. Ask the Lord to help you forgive him and move on friend. Doesn’t mean you have to have him in your life but turn him over to God. Easier said than done I know but possible with Gods help and when you finally turn him over 100%- you will have so much peace. Remember the parable of the man who owed a debt and went before the judge and was in danger of prison but the judge forgave his debt. This man left and ran into another fellow who owed him a fraction of what he was just forgiven of and he laid hold of the man and demanded payment- when the judge heard he decided to throw him in prison after all and to be turned over to the tormentors. This is a picture of us being forgiven for ALL our sins and then we won’t forgive what someone did to us. And we live without peace until we turn them over to God and leave them there.
