What is the on position vs the off position? I have this mic and I never know which is which. :)
@MeridianMedia Жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delayed response, but the on position is when the button is towards the top of the microphone. Hope that helps!

may i know if chewing sound would be canceled using the LCF function?
@MeridianMedia8 ай бұрын
Great question! The low-cut filter on the Sennheiser MKE 600 primarily reduces low-frequency noise like wind or traffic rumble. It might slightly reduce the intensity of chewing sounds, which can have low-frequency components, but it won't completely cancel them out.
@dario-digiovanni2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this video. There's barely no difference, so is it better to use set it on on the mic and also applying some noise remover in post?
@MeridianMedia2 жыл бұрын
Hi Dario, thanks for watching! It always will depend on your environment and the type of audio you are recording, but for the most part you should be fine leaving the low-cut filter turned on and doing some additional cleaning up in post.
@lktasl9994 жыл бұрын
would there be any reason to not just shoot everything with the low cut filter on? Would you only want it off if you actively wanted those lower frequencies?
@MeridianMedia4 жыл бұрын
For recording dialogue and really for most cases I don't think it would do any harm to keep the low- cut turned on. However, you may want to turn the filter off if you are doing field recordings or using it for music recording. Like you said, there may be instances where you want to keep as much low end as possible.
@soldermecold74563 жыл бұрын
I mostly use it for dialog and keep high pass filter switch on, same for when recording outside to help with wind rejection. The only time I really turn it off, is when I record sound effects. My recorder also has a HPF and if I need to tune it up or down, I will turn it off on the MIC, and do it in the recorder.

You didn't touch on the mic gain. I use the Canon C70 with Sennheiser 600 MKE and I was struggling because of the background noises even when low cut was ON. I found out the solution to be to decrease the gain on the camera, in my case I went all the way to 4 (from a 0 to 10 scale) and there was little to no background noise. So probably if you mix the two settings you get even better sound. Also not forgetting Canon C70 (probably on other cameras too) has got this low-cut filter setting too. I wonder if I can mix all the three settings (low cut on camera, low cut on mic and lower gain) to achieve the best of audio.
@MeridianMedia2 жыл бұрын
The gain level depends on what you are recording. For instance, if you are recording dialogue, you want your meters to read between -18db and -12db. If you place your microphone close to the subject, you shouldn’t need to apply too much gain to get those levels. However, if you don’t apply enough gain, you’ll get noise in post when you try to raise the volume because you’ll also be raising the noise floor.

@@MeridianMedia does low cut filter remove internal noise from the mic? i hate having that hissing sound
@lynnng34832 жыл бұрын
hello! i recently just got an mke 600 and realized that my camera doesnt have a mic input... is there any other way that i could use this mic? can i insert it in a recorder and use it instead?
@MeridianMedia2 жыл бұрын
Hello! Are you sure your camera doesn’t have a mic input? Most have at least a 3.5mm mic input. If so, you could buy an XLR to 3.5mm adapter. If not, you can definitely use this on an audio recorder. Most of the time this is what we do and then we just sync up the sound once we are editing. Audio recorders are relatively affordable too. Hope this helps!

No difference at all with the air conditioning test!!! Whats worrying is the noisefloor on this mic. Its seems to be an issue with all of the vlogging style mics

Smartphone speakers probably aren’t the best way to hear the difference, but I think I understand the concept. I just got the mic in yesterday and I did a little testing in my living room with the ceiling fan on, and in my backyard with a little bit of a breeze. So would you say, for simplicity, it’s cool to just keep the low cut on pretty much all the time?
@MeridianMedia3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you can probably get away with leaving it on. In most instances you won’t want that low end noise anyway. Thanks for watching!
@DaveSoltura3 жыл бұрын
Voice actors need to have live recording sessions with clients sometimes. It would be embarrassing if they heard some kind of low hum throughout the recording. That's when I'd especially use a high-pass filter!

Greetings friend, how does this mic work for vlogging? Due to my autistic nature, I walk and talk to get into a flow. Would I be able to do that with this connected to an iPhone while maintaining good sound? Thanks.
@MeridianMedia3 жыл бұрын
Hello, thanks for watching! This mic would work fine for vlogging, but it requires phantom power in order to operate. So you'd need to connect to an audio recorder with phantom power, or a camera that provides phantom power. You may want to consider a lavalier microphone. They are super reliable and ideal if you'd like to walk and talk. Hope this helps!
@mosesnandi2 жыл бұрын
@@MeridianMedia I think you should add too that it also uses battery 🔋 (AA Batteries) in absence of phantom power
@MeridianMedia2 жыл бұрын
@@mosesnandi Yep, forgot to add that in but that's a good point! I usually power the microphone from the recorder or the camera.

Have you ever experience hiss in your recording?
@MeridianMedia3 жыл бұрын
Hi Joon, thanks for watching! Usually I've found this comes from setting the gain too low on the audio recorder. When you try to boost the levels in post it raises the noise floor, resulting in a hiss.
