SENNHEISER HD660S2 Full Review!!! Dancing between clinical and musical!

I think I understand what Sennheiser was trying to accomplish with this set. The boosted bass probably did not please the traditionalists, but it sure makes this set a lot more approachable sound-wise than some of their more clinical and intentionally neutral sets. I really like what they did. It is a very enjoyable and still very technically capable headphone. My only issue is the release price of $599. Luckily, if you catch them on sale, they are a more palatable $399. And who knows, if you wait long enough, they might get even lower. But don't hold your breath. They have already been out for over a year, so $399 is possibly as low as they are going to get. Do I recommend them? Watch the video for all of the details and my conclusion.
ps. when I said 1,400 watts for the K11... well... mW maybe? lol.

Great review. I’m wanting to check out Sennheiser 620s closed backs. I am quite happy with my OG HD600s with ZMF perforated suede pads.

@@BassDad8 had they offered the HD660S2 back when I bought my HD600 I would have preferred the HD660S2. You got the better set imho.

Great interesting video, I fitted 1.25” velour pads to my 660s and hole in The dust cover , so slight better in bass, it just interesting that all pads are 3/4” depth, but I have old hd575 which had 1.25” . I have 6xx with custom cans bass mod , I am hoping somebody do review between 6xx/650 with the bass mod compared with 660s2. I do use my 660s with ifi zen2 dac with true bass selected and they do come alive . Regards mark

You’re absolutely right about the zen Dac v2 with True Bass on. That is definitely my preferred way to listen to the 660s2. Good call!

Just a bit too crunchy. You can kinda hear the drivers working hard to keep up and they’re just not quite doing it. This is kind of a nitpick, I realize. Metal obviously employs a lot of distortion in guitars and bass and vocals and… some drivers/tunings are better suited for it than others. The HD660s2 handles bands like Tool, Mastodon and Sleep Token just fine. Meshuggah, Lamb of God and Brand of Sacrifice are just a bit too much for them.

that was fun) ok, if we will talk about MAIN signature of Sennheiser they like have it but same time it's a black sheep in a crowd of other. this model is worst in line up of mid price Sennheisers. 490 Pro, 600, 650, 6xx will be much better pick for music listening. but all you who want to buy opened back Sennheisers should know - this kind of "flat" graph on LF/MF is like thin red line who wents through all studio opened back headphones. if you need more bass you need closed back. and this kind of presentation is totally neutral on bass/mid region. your hearing after years of +10db on bass just have some.. deformation)) sorry but it's true. highs on this not the natural and that's why this set not popular. I would say even "weird" tuned highs. this kind of tuning is a compliment for all kinds of electric guitars and vocal. if you making more bass that's where you damaging your experience. but in the end of the day it's just always on our personal preferences. oh, almost forgot - all Sennheisers loves tube amps. but I'm personally purist guy and not using it))

Well my friend, I had a completely different experience than that and I will stand by my assessment. It is a stand-alone assessment to be sure as they are the only sennheiser headphones that I own and have experienced. But I like it a lot. And I do not find the bass lacking even with the stock pads. Nor do I find the treble in any way unnatural. But like you said, this is all about personal preference and personal experience. For me, they are very enjoyable. ☮

The $599 price is why they are unpopular, most still consider it the best of the 600 lineup just overpriced.

@@BassDad8 yeah, I glad you like it. but I hope you will find some others to compare and then we probably speak again) I should mention about audio gear for musicians - it's NOT a rabbit hole. you just taking something from your budget and it works great. much harder when you have some overexpectations like most audiophiles. I mean, don't forget about love to music not sound in first. Otherwise I like bass a lot, but not when I didn't hear mids cos' this lows bleeds a lot. I'm playing guitar in DT880 and this low-mid balancing almost same as 660, 650, 600. this kind of signature informative for me. I need this frequencies to hear my playing issues. and I'm recording all my take, watching waves, how that measures with drums and clicks and all that stuff. and I hear enough bass in those or the other studio headphones I've ever used. but same time CKLVX exist and they like good in this relation too. but it's a different beast))

@@Hijynx87 1000% agree about the price. I would have never bought them for that. But for $400 I think they are reasonable. Just look at the headphone market. It’s like night and day day compared with the iem market. Seems like you gotta pay 3-4X the amount to get similar performance. I guess they didn’t get that memo. lol!
