I love this mic. Great video. I've done a comprehensive comparison of the Sennheiser compared to the media mod mic for the GoPro hero 9. My settings were for walking, cycling and in car vlogging. I'm super impressed with the Sennheiser.

Great review! I've been using a Rode stereo video mic on my mirrorless camera and the sound was great, only problem for me was the on off switch broke off and lost in a field somewhere. The construction of the mic was pretty flimsy anyway. The internal battery was a pain too. I bought this little sennheiser and think it's brilliant, alright the sound is a little tinny but easily remedied post processing as you say. First time I nearly recorded with the mic on the wrong way round especially easy to do with the dead cat on, strange the cable at the front? Incidentally I recorded outdoors in very windy conditions the other day and can say the dead cat is very effective.

Thanks George! Yes, the cable in front is a little strange indeed. I’ve gotten used to it now however.

Is this zennhiser a good mic to record a live outdoor band, concert like? That's what I'm looking for.
@navinramaswaran3 жыл бұрын
The mic will do a decent job capturing that sort of audio, but more as a scratch track rather than clean audio of the music performance. You’ll need to grab a feed from a mixing board for pritine sound during a concert type scenario.

I just got one of these but I’m debating upgrading to the 400. Have you had a chance to test out the 400?
@navinramaswaran2 жыл бұрын
Hey there - I haven’t checked out the 400 yet, but the 400 is actively powered and has a larger frequency range, which means it should technically be better in more situations compared to the 200.
@Dstonephoto2 жыл бұрын
@@navinramaswaran thanks. It really makes you wonder how hard it would be to DIY our own conversion for replicating those features with a Ras Pi Zero and a third party mic. Love the built in shock and pop filters on them, but then there’s a bunch of features missing. The fact that there’s no internal recording at such a price point (mke 400 mark 2) is why I’m kinda meh about it. 🤷🏼♀️

thanks for the comparaison, the sennheiser look good. I'm looking for a microphone to do outdoor interviews but I dont want to hold a microphone in my hand. I want to use my gimball dji om4, so i will attach the microphone to a cold shoe support. I want your advice. will it be good for outdoor interviews ? If I'm 3 feet away...is it useless in a festival where there might be more noise (or music) what is your opinion ? it's hard to find a very good microphone for that use for a reasonnable price. thanks in advance for your help
@navinramaswaran3 жыл бұрын
Hi Marc! Typically, if you’re in a loud environment (like a music fest) or further than 2-3ft from your subject, a shotgun mic like these ones aren’t going to fair well for an interview. You’re better off using a lav mic. A shotgun mic is useful for non-interview situations or in run and gun style interviews where pristine audio isn’t necessarily the most vital element.

Nice review man. Is it possible to mount this off camera with a 3.5mm extension maybe or does it have to be on the shoe?
@navinramaswaran4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Leo! While I haven’t tested it with an extension cable, I don’t see why not. There’s a screw thead at the bottom of the hotshoe mount that you can use to screw the mic onto a tripod plate, Joby, etc. hope that answers your question!

Hi Dante! You’ll need a 3.5mm mic adapter to connect the MKE200 to your GoPro Hero 5, but yes I would recommend it if you need to capture good quality audio with your GoPro. It’s definitely much better than the built in mic.

Nice job man I'm thinking about MKE200 Can you re check if the mic has a noise from moving the camera around? its related to shock mount for MKE vs Rode, the sound appear in the video (im not sure, when shoot the cat) Some people said MKE has this issue, What do you think about it? Thank you for your effort

@@3li.alyami Right! That's actually my fault - When I moved the camera to shoot the cat my Peak Design anchor links (www.peakdesign.com/products/anchor-links) kept knocking against the mic. So that's the sound you're hearing, not the fault of the mic itself.

Here is the answer to the question I was asking myself. I would like to know whether the Sennheiser's self-noise is lower than that of the Rode microphone. That’s what I hear, but is that true?
@navinramaswaran4 жыл бұрын
@@fraaettt_3095 Good question! I don’t have the Rode with me anymore so I’m unable to do a new test but based on my previous usage they both seemed similar. But that’s just me doing these non-scientific tests.

I've been using the MKE200 for 3 months now. I do like the flatter sound profile over my Rode Video Micro; I don't adjust much in post other than levels. As far as sound quality, I do prefer it over the Rode Video Micro. That bein said, if one already has the Rode Video Micro there's not immediate need to change. I prefer the MKE200 because of two reasons; the lower profile design and everything else in my audio kit is Sennheiser (MKE600, AVX, MKE2, HD-25) When audio isn't going directly into my R5, it's going into my MixPre3.
@navinramaswaran4 жыл бұрын
Agreed! The Rode does sound better without any processing but the size and weight of the Sennheiser is a plus for many situations (run & gun and vlog style shoots, etc).
