as an audio engineer, some feedback about eq boost. as well as boosting some bass frequencies, you should also do a high pass filter, at 100hz or so. that way you are boosting the frequencies relevant to your voice but cutting the really low ambient fluff like road noise. raise the high pass filter till you hear it taking body out of your voice.

@@UneducatedPhotographer that's pretty dang perfect for kasey if paired with the a7s3 and its "on sale" right now. Can't beat no cables, no battery, no on/off AND a pure digital stream injected straight into the file at 24bit/48khz. For my A7S3, its going to be more of a rigged pro setup for corporate world, commercials, Docs, etc. So I picked up the XLR-K3M which is $100 off right now. With it going into the A7S3 you can feed it 4 channels at 24bit/48khz, I have 2 sets of Rode Wireless Go mics for 2 person interviews, and I boom the MKH-416 (I like to have both boom and Lav) and the xlr mic that comes with the XLR-K3M will be backup audio track. Nothing to do in post, yet have FS/FX lile controls of the 4 audio channels before they go into the A7S3 as a digital stream. The ECM-B1M is just over 2oz, so Kasey will likely prefer that, but even the XLR-K3M is around 6oz with the XLR mic, both doing 24bit/48khz digital straight to file and both needing no batteries or on/off or having no wires going into camera (except where mics plug into the XLR-K3M obviously, but no cables going the camera that can break, be forgotten, pick up interference, etc)

Here is a genius idea for (the) Sennheiser : have the mic mounted on a swivel base than can rotate 180deg. The audio cable connection would be on the base (then it’s not moving when you rotate the mic). You attach the base to hot shoe and never touch it again. Then you can just easily rotate the mic 180deg depending on your vlogging situation (front or rear facing). Perhaps have a detent or easy locking mechanism to keep mic at 0deg or 180deg. Cable stays in place at all time and you always get perfect sound. Just like a flippy screen. Bam !! Perfect vlogging mic 🤓 (they’d better send me a free one when they make it 😄)

If you find you have too much bass with some mics, try Multiband Compression or Dynamic EQ instead of Standard EQ. It stops the bass from becoming overpowering. Also, a mic being more 'sensitive' just means it'll have less 'static' noise, not less background noise. Background noise has to do with the polar pattern, and it appear the Sennheiser is supercardioid so will pick up mostly from the front (fairly wide), some from the back (very narrow) and none from the sides. The rode will be more cardioid (more from the sides but nothing from the back in relation to the Sennheiser).

Both mics are very sensitive, which can be both good and bad. As you noted, the Videomicro is useless from behind; I reversed it once for behind-the-camera audio but that's a pain in the @ss. OTOH, I've had the receiver cord loosen from the GoPro Media Mod a couple of times, leaving me with the Media Mod's ambient mic sound (horrible!). as with video, there are two ways to tune your mic. Either tweak to make it look/sound good, or calibrate to make it look/sound accurate. Usually the latter needs to be done first, before adjusting to taste. So I would recommend playing and recording some sample notes at different pitches but at the same volume, then eq the video so that any quiet pitches are corrected; but make sure you dont over correct, as it can have a knock on effect. Use 1khz as the main reference volume.

To round this out you should have looked at the Movo VXR10-PRO at under $50 in this category its also hard to beat even compared to the MKE 200. And then to go to the extreme on the other end. There's an option that requites no cable, no turning on or off, no battery to replace, and has additional features for mic patterns and plugged into the A7S3 it sends a pure digital stream at 24bit/48khz straight to your camera through the MI hot shoe. The Sony ECM-B1M and it just happens to be "on sale" right now. ONLY negative besides the price, is you cant boom it, it has to be in the MI hot shoe.
