Forget diplomacy. The secret to world peace is a shirtless Roger Daltrey flying around on a hang glider.

The bikers were real bikers called ¬The Black Angels, north east coast based in Sunderland though they are now affiliated to the Hells Angels. A film crew member saw some of the lads riding round Sunderland and mentioned it to Ken Russell who in turn invited the club up to the lake district to film some scenes for the film. We actually met up with another bike gang (who had already shot some scenes) but they didn't have bikes, just a ratty old car and a van. When they met us in Keswick they were all very friendly but things changed when they were told the clubs would have to fight each other. The stunt team gave us rubber bike chains but we said we had already brought our own. All the weapons are real in the film. When we went to the first site (an old quarry) all hell had broken loose because the other bike gang (sans bikes) had gone. This meant that all the previous scenes would have to be filmed again. That fight scene took a week to film and several bikes were badly damaged (but repaired by the film company). One night, Roger Daltry and a bodyguard ( called mahatmacoat)came up to our campsite for a drink/ he brought several crates of Newcastle Brown ( the film company provided a large marquee for us to sleep in. It was a great night as he sang for us (and we for him) told stories and talked about the film. Many of the lads went all the the country to refilm the other sequences. It was a great experience.

OH God, this scene made me cry the other day, cry with laughter. The Hells Angels are beating the crap out of each other and they stop because look! It's Roger Daltrey on a Hangglider! I really lose it when the angels start to dance really badly by the river.

Both Tommy and Jesus Christ Superstar are by far my favorite musicals. They both deal with the belief systems of those who choose to believe in a messiah that gives the individual ground for believing in said messiah and the warm and fuzzies attached to their chosen belief in chosen truth.

@TerribleGreenBlizzrd No, the stage musical was just more dumbed down for the masses. The movie was brilliant because it was multi-layered, loaded with thought provoking symbolism and each scene had many meanings. And that tacked on happy ending in the stage musical ruins the entire thing.

"The logical song" by Supertramp is a great tune, but such an OBVIOUS plagiarism from this one...The who have always been ahead from the rest.
@isaiahangelo9 жыл бұрын
+buru jucuru The Who and Townshend in particular were very original. The interesting thing with "Sensation," is that it may have been an inspiration for the Beatles' "Here Comes The Sun," written by George Harrison. The logic being that Pete Townshend wrote Sensation about several months before he began work on Tommy. Sensation was written sometime in the late summer of 1968. Tommy was recorded from late '68 through spring of '69 and "Here Comes the Sun was recorded between late summer and early fall of '69. And if you listen to both songs in comparison, Harrison was using some of the same 3/4 against 4/4 stuff that Townshend uses for Sensation when the French Horn part comes in

+isaiahangelo Interesting input. I never thought about the resemblances between those two, but now that you mention it, it's quite evident, although maybe unintentional. I guess we'll never know!

Unfortunately, the movie in no way touched the imagery of the album. Quadrophenia was a much better album and movie. Tommy may have brought The Who into the main stream, but Quadrophenia is The Who's masterpiece.
