I mean there are literally bikes everywhere in amsterdam and there's a lot of water as well, so that why basically.The canals are being dug out weekly and the bikes get recycled and turned into all sorts of stuff.

Amsterdam is amazing, the buildings are beautiful, the landscape and how the canal runs right through a city is just facinating!!! But, I must say that having that canal, with no protective railings is a bit scary, I can only imagine the stuff that is in that murky water, maybe bodies also. It would be kool if they could drain this canal and see exactly what lurks beneath the surface, oh the things that they would fnd!!!

Bikes that are not in a good condition are hauled away. There are rules about the defects a bike must have. For instance, no saddle.
