What an awesome sensei to train with! He really is a cool guy with a warm personality with an immense depth of knowledge. He has really dedicated his life to the arts. Great video!!!

Wonderful, thank you for sharing this. I trained under Sensei Stolsmark for about three years in the early 90's, back when he was still teaching Yamashita Shorin-Ryu, and had only been there for a few months when he made the trip to Japan to compete in full-contact mentioned earlier in the video. It was kinda surreal, having your teacher in your small-ish town go around the world and win these events. I'd love to compare and contrast Shorinkan with Yamashita Shorin-Ryu some day, and learn some of that Kobudo!

I absolutely love this presentation. I can see why your sensei asked you to carry on in his stead. Would love to come and learn Matayoshi Kobudo from you, I am a former student of Anthony Marquez and Jesse Canedo.

One thing that Sensei Stolsmark failed to mention was that when he fought in Japan in 1991 he broke his knuckles the first day of competition and finished first winning all his full contact bouts. Very much a master of the art.

It is usually the headpeople of a association for teaching and loyalty of oneself and of course the ability and many year's of devotion to one's art. Unfortunately in this day and age too many senior grade awards are self promoted and not worthy. EG. I'm a so and so grade so I'll start my own association with my mate's ( student's) and we can all promote each other.

*2:53** It is absolutely irresponsible to take part in a full contact match on a hard surface like they do here. Both the organizers and the competitors should've known better.*
