Some backstory on this video: I was asked to create something different than the earlier SF videos. There was limited time + resources, and SF couldn't be in it because they were touring / unavailable. Live action video of the band performing THE FIRE hadn't officially been shot / released when this was made.

Many thanks, I'm glad you can relate to it. It was a full on round the clock effort to get it done in a month. I was hired by VAGRANT to "do what I do", and took an approach to the song that tried to show pain, isolation, and ultimately release. Animating music videos is largely a labor of love (limited $), so it's nice when people get something from it. thanks again

story was that they had shot a video for this in new york back in sept 2010 i beleive but buddy had said that video didnt come out as expected so this was released instead. I hope we can get to see that other version one day

This song had a DIFFERENT video being filmed...I was invited with a bunch of people to mouth the words to the song, in NYC way back. Had a lot of fun in front of green screen, met the band and drank orange juice. Too bad they never aired that footage I would love to see that :(

thanks a bunch. yeah, when the video first came out it was out a couple weeks before I realized it. When I started scrolling through the comments I definitely felt like the kid on the playground getting hammered on. I hope some of the pissed off fans put some of that energy toward something creative. The video was featured on Communication Arts home page where it got good reception, but a lot of the SF fans didn't connect with it. thx again

I really liked this video!! It gets your attention, and I think it was a good choice going for something more edgy and creative. Props to the band and the director! I noticed that a lot of fans are pretty upset that the video didn't turn out as they expected, but if you are truly a fan, you have to respect the band's decision on a video they feel best represents their music. If you don't like it, at least respect all of the people that put their hard work into it.

I have no idea (why first video was scrapped), and I wasn't even aware of the scrapped idea (till later). I found out about that after my video was released, from the annoyed fans that were hoping / expecting to be in the video. I DO know that there are loads of factors involved in these things, so it's not that unusual for a label to change directions on a video... that said, I wish someone had told me about it earlier.
