This song makes me think of this book called Tampa. It’s about this boy who’s in middle school who’s parents just got divorced so he’s all vulnerable and he meets this teacher who’s a predator. And it was a woman. Just how naïve he was and how she was able to manipulate, use him, and the throw him away makes my stomach hurt when I think about it. Best of luck. It gets easier both ways, after a while you won't even miss drinking at all; it won't be in your mind. A holiday and a few social beers later you could be smashing way too much and missing work. It probably won't last though and you'll go back to being sober after a very guilty few episodes. Your attachment to life, mundane as it is will win over booze if you really have had enough.

What's the meaning?
@trog60505 жыл бұрын
Lyle Lanley the meaning behind this song is why would I ever want to grow old with the knowledge and pain that I went through after a person I loved more than life itself leaves or humiliated you. It’s better to die young and save yourself from this. Or another take would be why would you want to ever live in this fucked up world that we live in it’s not worth all the pain that we endure. Those are just 2 of the endless depressing examples that you could have from this song
@vela-64 жыл бұрын
@@trog6050 To me, the song is about him thinking of losing his virginity as sacred. But then when he was rushed into it by a girl he loved, but viewed him as just a fun time. He felt crushed/heart-broken. So he feels like he should've never held sex to be a sacred thing, and he should've jumped into it early and just hooked up with random girls earlier to save himself from the devastation of what he went through. "Die young and save yourself" Or, in other words, lose your virginity young and don't make it sacred. Of course, based on his view of the girl being the "slaughter" or evil, him doing this, he would end up being the evil one. So in that way, I think it's supposed to be a little bit of ironic advice to give.

@Evany Soteldo. This is so bizarre, my mother was EXACTLY the same but when I was finally free, I acted out. I wanted to do EVERYTHING and didn't care or consider possible consequences. I was self destructive. All I cared about is partying. Even though I have some good memories of that time, I'm blessed I wasn't killed. I nearly was. And I DID end up getting "victimized", and part of that is because I was making poor decisions and putting myself in dangerous situations. I could say I REGRET being stupid, but often that goes like this: regret, then blame, then unforgiveness (to yourself as well as who hurt you), then bitterness, then physical illness, misery, and you could end up "that crazy person that lives on the corner". My point is partly that nostalgia is all well and good, but if you are dwelling on things of the past and listening to music from that era proliferates feelings of melancholy and or regret, address those things from your past, forgive (even if the person(s) don't deserve it), then let it all go. Not only will you be freeing yourself to enjoy THIS VERY MOMENT and generating awesome memories of THIS MOMENT when your 60, but you may be able to ENJOY the music from the past without feeling depressed, oppressed, or hopeless. Can't control other people or change the past but you can change who you are and how you deal with things. You'll come out stronger, happier, and nostalgia won't necessarily be depressing.

+chocolatecoatedllama I would think I believe you, but my tommy gun don't would be more of an inspiration to lying since they are about getting cheated on. This song is about a guy losing his virginity, or more accurately, getting his virginity taken away.

I remember in high school swim class… we had to come up with a synchronized swim routine. A few of the boys did this song. My emo heart was so happy even though I was stuck in a country song routine 😂

The soldier I fell in love with introduced me to this song before she passed. If she wasn't with me now, I'd be bawling my eyes out listening to this tbh

30 and a half and i'm having a nostalgia trip at 4am. I wish I could go back to my middle school/high school days, despite how horriible some of them were.

Oh this brings back memories. Love the instrumental during the chorus. Brings the song full circle. Being able to control those people and have all that power was like WOAH!! But the flipping tables part was AWESOME!! When I first saw the end to this video I was like THAT'S HOW IT ENDS?!? WOW!! I always thought that the girl was the guy in the shadows GF or daughter and that's why he did the motion of the throat cut. That was my 11 year old interpretation lol.

I really wish they had done some sort of continuation to this video. The ending leaves you on a bit of a cliff hanger. I love this song though, it's kick-ass live.
