I loved how dark this anime was. The night scenes, the brutal fights, the deaths, Tatsumi's sadness and sorrow... Especially because the anime pretended to be comedy at some points, and then it hits you even harder. Also the first death of Sheele fucked me up, because she was like Tatsumi's best friend who comforted him about the death of his friends.

Sums up this anime/manga to a *T.* People will complain about characters being saved by plot/having too much plot armor, and then works like this shows what happens when characters *don't* have plot armor and yet they *STILL* wanna complain. Safety or reality, what do you people want?! I remember 1st watching this show on Toonami after the dub of Kill la Kill ended. Still enjoyed it personally, and I eventually read the manga as well. Was also reading Zero, but then 2020 happened and I haven't gone back to it from the library I was checking volumes out since... This was also the show that showed me that with shipping, the least likely of choices *CAN* win in the end.

Normally I’m used to these kinds of anime’s but damn, Chelsea death really got to me. Not only was she my favorite character in the whole series but she went out in the most brutal dirtiest disrespectful way ever. Everyone else went out like a hero in combat except for Chelsea. She went out in pure fear and worse, the anime barely even acknowledges her death. Not only did she never get to confess her true feelings to Tatsumi, they barely even acknowledged her existence.

I like the thumbnail of *Esdeath,* she looks utterly taken aback but I couldn't for the life of me remember the scene it's from, probably near or during the final episode. But yes, I remember being genuinely surprised by the seemingly sudden deaths of a lot of the characters introduced, the main team, *"Nightraid"* almost all gone in one season from one dramatic death to the next, it was a rollercoaster of emotions and recall feeling drained emotionally after finishing it.

Btw its worth mentioning that the manga is a lot different. The anime caught up around the time Chelsea's death happened and they were given rough guidelines of how the manga was planned to go. This means that while a lot of events are similar, theres key differences. For example the best arc in the series, Wild Hunt, was completely skipped over in the anime. Also several characters that die in the anime dont die in the manga. For the sake of not spoiling I wont say who but the Manga is much better imo

@Senshiiyt It does diverge around chelsea's death but I'd still recommend reading from chapter 1. one of the key difference is that the Mine Tatsumi romance started A LOT earlier in the manga. In the manga Mine and Tatsumi were already a couple by the time of Tatsumi's first capture. That makes Tatsumi rejecting Esdeath's advances in her bedroom and on the island make A LOT more sense. Oh and manga Esdeath is so broken. She makes anime Esdeath look like weak fodder by comparison

The anime ending is always so strange to me every time i see it. Like there's like 3 extra deaths, a completely alternate plot-line/ending, and It doesn't explain why Akame pretty much goes to their world's version of Japan. And btw there is a Sequel manga showing what Akame is doing in Japan, its not as interesting as the original manga though, but its there if you're curious.

it is explained but I'll do you a solid and tell you why. The reason akame is in Japan is because she's looking for a way to turn tatsumi back into a human. Also the sequel manga was axed due to poor ratings, it was also made during the time the mangaka decided to go for fanservice (which would result in him making mato saihei no slave) so it's very fan servicey(you can see nipples). One character literally has to PLOW creatures just for a battle plan(I'm not kidding). The main reason for the poor ratings is because of NTR, but what makes this worse is that the male part of the pairing is killed.
