This is explains why intuition people think sensing people are stupid and they cannot see the bigger picture, and why sensing people think intuition people are boring and not realistic.

Not stupidity, but disability (unless you’re talked about a child who hasn’t reached the ability to think in abstract terms). It’s culturally cultivated disability and wilful stupidity. And why not, as the vast majority are interested only in beef steaks.

Starts at 1:51 Summary: Sensors: To communicate with intuitives, think about the questions "why" and "what if". Intuitives: To communicate with sensors, think about the questions "what" and "how".

Female INTJ dating a male who I believe to be an ISTJ. VERY helpful info. Thank you. Helps me understand his perspective a little better. I will be applying this information.

Thanks Antonia. What a great way to explain this. My sensor partner after listening to it 2 times, almost understands it. Maybe 3 times will be a charm. Lol

I'm a IXFJ. I am sometimes over on the S by a few percent and sometimes more by a few percent on the N. It's always right in the middle. So I guess I can climb up and down the ladder pretty easily?

I might give an example using this data. Like, if after meeting a sensor on the farm and being introduced to their favorite cow Bessie, intuitive says “She’s cute. Wish I could invest the time and money into something like this”, the sensor might respond with “Bessie was free and she’s pretty low maintenance.” When, actually, the intuitive was referring to the overall farm and taking care of numerous cows.

Insightful video once again! :) I do understand abstract concepts but actually in myself I can see now that I actually tend to be quite specific in my language, which I never really noticed before. Therefore I haven’t seriously considered myself a Sensor because I do daydream a lot and mull over unusual random concepts (what of the sky was made out of glass?) But in this example I’d talk about “Bessie the Milk Cow” firstly because for me I’d have a connection with her, a cow I see everyday and care about. She’s important in my life. Personal. For this example “farm assets” is a concept I understand and can stretch my mind to but I suppose my focus is on the specific Bessie first. Another example, when I’m in a new city, rather than reflect “oooh buildings! Architectural assets!” I’d be observing the scenery and picking up the unique characters of the buildings, perhaps get attached to a notable one that captures my imagination and whimsy. Then I’d I was meeting someone I’d then I’d describe to others “hey meet me at the tall narrow shaped building with the red bricks, that’s at the corner of where the pavement meets the woodlands”. Hmm I guess I concrete first “Bessie” and then travel up the ladder...wonder what that says about me...

In my case,i'd prefer to see animals as friends or companions. When we reached top level of abstraction with money,i thought of the animals as such. But the general idea is a good baseline.

I think context matters at the end of the day; it is silly to label yourself as either a “Sensor” or “Intuitive”. Your going to have different conversations at work at an accounting firm than you will at a book club meeting for example.

Why a ladder and not a straight spectrum? Low to High just give it a meaning of something being higher or lower.

Probably because of the phrases, "down to earth" and "head in the clouds", it makes sense symbolically.

i really LOVE this intuitive integration! the N&S dichotomy is by far my favorite one, it really explained a lot to me (personal problems etc, feeling different etc) btw: are N-types in general better at communicating to S-types then S to N types? (since the world is more 'sensory' then 'intuitively')

Thanks, Antonia. Your example is interesting but I don’t find it accurate (INTJ here 😁). The upper rungs are not only levels of refined abstraction, but values. This is how a farmer thinks (assets, money). What determines these values according to which ones thinks and even feels? They’re not universal but culturally determined. Your example reflects a consumerist mindset. I wonder what this ladder would look like for an Se who is a Hindu. I bet you they treat cows better than Se non- religious farmers. I am not Hindu, but I worship The Heavenly Cow, surrounded by apes (the lowest rung we all understand) who use their power of abstraction and other forms of reasoning to build more efficient slaughterhouses. Red heifer barbecue steak, anyone? I’ve given up trying. I’ve burnt the ladder to my tree house where I imagine myself as a bird with bird eye accuracy for details. Se people don’t see the wood for the trees and they are unable to think that they won’t be able to breathe when they will have cut down the last tree to make themselves nice furniture. I will fly away when they cut down my tree. What are they going to do? Inhale the chairs under their bums?

One point has to be made clear. You just gave the cow very T level of abstraction. Cow as money making machine could be very repulsive concept to an INFP for example. How about introverted intuition. It comes into an conclusion through timelines of cows and other related things instead of just extracting potential. Introverted sensing would be amassed on how cow looks through their taste of beauty etc. So even it goes very deep as well. Extroverted sensing type would think about having a bullfight with it.

Yup, there are types that get triggered by certain things if it hits their convictions in just that way. However, the illustration comes from a book about learning how languages and abstractions are understood. If a person is unable to set their judging decision-making process aside for a moment in order to take in the intent of new information I'm not sure if I agree that should automatically be validated. While the author of the book Language in Thought and Action is most likely an INTJ, that doesn't necessarily disqualify Feelers (or, specifically, users of Introverted Feeling like INFPs) from being able to appreciate the content. Thanks for the comment. -A-

When I saw "Bessie the Cow," I thought of how Bessie is a spectacle, that she's mocked, degraded and doesn't own, or have any concept of, her existence. My mind wanted to linger on the word 'existence,' but I stopped. What would call you this line of thinking?

Think this model is useful for understanding communication with N and S, but technically is inaccurate for understanding the dynamics and definitions of the cognitive functions.

I agree. Nor are they intended to. This video was designed to give a tool to Sensors and Intuitives on how they can communicate more effectively with each other, since they often have so much trouble understanding each other's wiring. For a more in-depth description of intuition as mental processes, feel free to check out our podcast on Intoverted Intuition vs. Extraverted Intuition: www.personalityhacker.com/podcast-episode-0030-introverted-intuition-vs-extraverted-intuition/
