I played rugby in school and for my county. Never had concousion just some dislocated bones and lots of bruises. I dislocated my shoulder twice in one game it was popped back in twice. I was very annoyed I couldn't lift a pint of beer for a week without feeling pain. Rugby doesn't stop once you are tackled you have to release the ball to a team mate or opposition player.
@alphacrusis2632Ай бұрын
This is rugby league. Once you are tackled tackler holds you down until the referee says either 'release' or 'play the ball' then the tackler will let you get up. League is different to union in that in union you have to release the ball when you get tackled and a ruck usually forms around you in order to keep the play going. In league each time you get tackled that is like a down except that there are 6 tackles before a handover occurs. Union is more kinetic but league stops and starts and is more predictable. Union is more popular because of the pace of the game.
@xtongan_clown29442 ай бұрын
With league after a tackle u get up and roll the ball there’s only 6 runs but with union you get on top to protect the ball and you basically play until u lose the ball then it’s hand over

A play does end when someone is tackled in rugby. Up to the point I watched (3:55) it is all 13-a-side Rugby League, rather than the much more popular 15-a-side Rugby Union. I don't think I saw a single tackle that would be legsl in Rugby Union, or even in Rugby League nowadays. You would be better watching a how to play video and then progressing to match so you can see the flow of the game, the tactics and the skill elements. I would recommend the Rugby England introduction to rugby, and follow up with Rugby explained to Americans. The second is good but it doesn't cover all the set pieces.

This is Rugby League, which is a bit different from the Rugby Union rugby which is played more internationally. RL is played by a lot of Aussies and NZ if I'm not mistaken. However, Aus also had their own national RU team, called Wallabies. Unlike football, the game doesn't stop when a player is tackled. It just continues

The big difference between the Codes is that in Union unlike League, in Union you get guys stomping in on the tackle area to win the ball for their side. The tackling thing... Footbal = Down by Contact Rugby = Down WITH Contact. You can't just knock someone over. If they're not touched while on the floor they can get back up and keep going. You will also see players go in to attempt to slow the player down from getting back to his feet. Because play never stops, the faster a tackled player can get up, the more fluid the attack can roll. By slowing to down they give their defense time to get set.
@irreverend_2 ай бұрын
Rugby Union doesn't stop play after a tackle, there's usually a ruck. Rugby League stops very briefly and players move back 10 yards and the guy who got tackled passes it back under his foot to another member of his team. There's more to it than that, but that's the general gist

Played rugby in college. One of my teams broke his c4-c5 in a game against u of Miami, paralyzed from the neck down. But, having grown up playing American football and picking up rugby in college, much more emphasis was placed on proper tackling techniques in rugby than in football. Also, football is about every inch, rugby isn’t so there is no real incentive to try and hit straight up all the time.

There are two codes of rugby: union and league. You're reacting to rugby league. There are more high speed collisions in league than in union. Union is more popular of the two though. P.S. in rugby league the tackler has to pin the ball carrier like they do in wrestling to complete the tackle-that's why they jump on the tackled player-otherwise the ball carrier can just get up and still play on.

The difference with american football and rugby is the way the attacking players run and also the defenders. Its encouraged to use your head in american football whether you're the attacker or defender. We don't use our head in Rugby or Rugby union. Although head knocks do happen, as it is a full contact sport. We dont use our head to attack or defend. We are tilting our heads to the side of the tackle. In American Football you are using your head to push in offence or defence, which is why you see far more concussions and CTE issues than in rugby and rugby league.

There are two types of rugby. Rugby League (this video seems to be all league) and Rugby Union. League is a spin off from Union. In the world it is a very minor player, played in only a handfull of countries. Union is played in over 120 countries. The major difference between the two is what happens after a tackle. In League, after a tackle there is no competition for the ball. A team gets an number of uncontested 'downs'. In Union possession of the ball is always contested.

@88Eoghan2 ай бұрын
Counterargument: league is simplified compared to union. A lot of Americans like their football because of the strategy and tactics involved. Union has a much greater depth as it is more complex, so this will have that same appeal. Also, crucially, union is truly the sport for all shapes and sizes as it has a big variety of roles among the positions.

@@Arti-iChi Don't think it's fair to say it takes out the physicality, most League players are much more athletic than Union players just due to the speed , nature and continuity of the game (which I mean in no way as a criticism of Union players, they train to an elite level to suit the code they play, if they trained in League from youth level they would no doubt have that athleticism as well).
