I used to reeeaaally suffer from hormonal acne and severe emotional imbalances due to my cycle. What honestly helped the most was going to an endocrinologist! Once i learned that i suffered from low progesterone levels i looked into natural/vegan options to raise my progesterone and i started taking supplements geared towards elevated estrogen. I've gotten SO much better. My skin, and my mental health has improved 100%. Hope this maybe helps someone out there suffering through similar problems! 😌

@Susan Yara if anyone is interested in an updated routine, my skin since this video has improved 10 fold! Night time: Clinique take the day off balm, cerave hydrating cleanser, ole hendrikson aha spot toner (when no retinol), the ordinary zinc+niacinamide, the ordinary buffet+copper peptide, tretinoin 0.1, and cerave pm cream. Caved and bought vit C eye cream from ole hendrikson. Fresh sugar lip balm on lips! For morning: splash water on face, L’Oréal 10% vit C, krave beet shield spf. Trying out the versed vit c serum for morning and the zinc and willowbark serum for night.

Can you do a routine for extremely dry, acne prone, highly textured, high pigmentation, large pore skin? Asking for a friend
@CardboardBoxed
@CardboardBoxed 4 жыл бұрын
Dry skin → exercise (increases sebaceous gland expression), increase omega 3/6 fatty acids (studies show this changes the viscosity of your oils, reducing heart disease and acne), reduce carbohydrates (insulin spikes increases global inflammation in the body), sleep well (reduces inflammation and, importantly, cortisol spikes). Morning, use an oil-free moisturiser (+SPF) and additional niacinamide (acne). Wash your face with benzoyl peroxide face wash (acne). At night use an oil free moisturiser, niacinamide and a retinoid analogue (Differin, etc). Don’t use all these extra products, they are likely irritants.
@catherinemartin624
@catherinemartin624 4 жыл бұрын
Cardboard Box Well, I’m currently on a low carb diet, eat fish very often, work out daily, drink plenty of water and sleep well. I use an oil free moisturiser as well as a hyaluronic acid serum. I use a hydrating SPF and cleanse with a gentle cleanser and remove my makeup with a hydrating cleansing balm. I can’t use products with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide as they SERIOUSLY dry out my skin. Water dries out my skin terribly just on its own. I also use a retinol (sparingly atm as I’m introducing it to my routine). Really don’t know what else to do :(
@CardboardBoxed
@CardboardBoxed 4 жыл бұрын
Catherine Martin which oil free moisturiser are you using? Benoyzl peroxide face wash is nothing like salicylic acid, it is usually prescribed but can be bought over the counter. It will dry your skin slightly, as that’s the point of it. Retinoids and retinol are different - retinol is very week and has little evidence showing efficacy. Differin and other retinoid analogues will reduce acne, pore size and texture. Niacinamide with a retinoid was shown to be more affective than antibiotics for acne and will drastically reduce redness and pore size.
@catherinemartin624
@catherinemartin624 4 жыл бұрын
Cardboard Box I’m using the Cetaphil Daily Advance Ultra Hydrating Lotion. It’s about the only thing that hydrates my skin. Would it be beneficial to work my way up to using retinoids by using the retinol? I’m finding that it dries my skin dramatically and I did get a purge for the first two weeks of using it. Thank you for taking your time to answer my questions, I really appreciate it

This is so cool to see other women’s skincare with hormonal acne because this has been my burden for almost a decade. I’ve been placed on a retinol by my derm and it’s made a significant change in my skin and I’m also on some antibiotics. I’m glad the Dr mentioned it’s ok to use the Niacinamide serum on the same night as the retinol because that’s what I do. I use my niacinamide every night and it’s helped my pores so much. ❤️ I also use the Cerave Pm moisturizer as well. I wish I was as smart with my skincare at her age, she’s ahead of the game.

I'd highly suggest Danielle use another Vitamin C product in her morning routine. The Kiehl's Vitamin C contains many irritants - lemon peel oil and other essential oils/synthetic fragrances. Also, if she uses this as her first active/serum, I’d prefer a formula that does not contain a silicone (there is dimethicone in the Kiehl’s Vitamin C). As stated in the video, I agree leaving silicones at the end of the routine! There are many other Vitamin C formulas without fragrance/palmitates that are better absorbable and less irritant for acne-prone skin. (Coming from my own personal use of the Kiehl’s brand and their Vitamin C on acne-prone skin)

Christina Nunez make sure your OB has said that you can use Bakuchiol. Because it’s new, there’s no real evidence that it’s safe or unsafe for pregnancy despite what brands say. It’s typically called a retinol analogue and should be fine but always ask your doctor. AHAs are generally fine since they don’t penetrate the skin very deeply but again, anyone curious should ask their doctor. Difffent OBs can have different answers too.

@CardboardBoxed
@CardboardBoxed 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jamie, the reality is you can do too much or too less. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to maintain a perfect skincare routine. Let me give you can example; if you have normal skin and decide to do an hour of jogging that day, your sebaceous glands will express more and your skin will be more oily. If it starts to rain, the humidity will increase and your skin becomes slightly more oily. We can’t control all these factors. Many people also forget, that adding many extra items, such as vitamin c serums, will only help if your skin has a deficiency in it. With no deficiencies, there will be little to no benefit. That’s what studies currently demonstrate. Big pharmaceutical companies would be all over these products if they worked as well as they did.

Thank you so much for these video series! They are so helpful. I am 30 years old and dealing with hormonal acne and thanks to great tips you have given us I have what I think is a good routine? I've posted below what I am currently using... AM: CeraVe Foaming Face Wash Thayers Witch Hazel Toner Vitamin C Serum CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion PM: La Roche Posay Effaclar Foamin Gel Cleanser Glycolic Acid Toner (Tuesday and Thursday) The Ordinary Buffet Serum The Ordinary Retinol Serum - 1.0% in Squalane (Monday Wednesday Friday and Saturday) CeraVe PM Lotion **I use Sundays for my exfoliating day- I either use The Ordinary AHA/BHA Peeling Solution or the Indian Clay Healing Mask with apple cidar vinegar** I would like to incorporate Niacinamide in my routine but google says to not mix Niacinamide with Vitamin C. I was also using Neutrogena Salicyic acid cleanser for my PM routine but again..googles says to not mix AHA/BHA with Retinol? So many rules to remember haha.

I love watching all this skincare stuff, I feel like I ought to have this fancy routine, but my dermatologist (who I saw on the NHS in England) literally prescribed Cetaphil and the Simple lightweight moisturiser and that's it. (that and cleaning my phone screen every day) And my skin has never been better! Turns out my skin reacts really badly to layers of products, especially any acids. 😢

OMG when I was dealing with bad acne and hyperpigmentation I went to my primary physician and she said use Vaseline to help and I was like what?! Thank God I didn't listen to her and listened to my gut instead!!! But I have used Vaseline on my 👄 my whole life and swear by it!!! I've tried other fancy stuff but nothing compares to Vaseline on my 👄!!! This was really helpful!

Hahaha! No, no makeup wipes, no makeup at all actually. I just use an sa wash, a witch hazel toner, moisturizer, and just added sunscreen. I’m in my 30s so that’s kinda embarrassing. At night, I wash with a gentle cleanser, spot treat, use The Ordinary’s Niacinamide and that’s it. I feel like I should be doing more since I have textural irregularities and enlarged pores. I have to add that I just recently added the toner, Niacinamide, and sunscreen. 😐

@@RealMexFoodShouldntGiveUDrrhea well they say sometimes the less the better but you could definitely add a little to your routine. I would look into "Yuli- PM Cell perfecto" it is widely respected by skin care junkies to have a good affect on people with texture or acne scars like me. All you need for really good skin care routine is niacinamide.. retinol.. vitamin c.. and sun screen. A good cleanser. I like also the p50 toner. Its AMAZING! After watching Susan's videos, you couldn't pay me to use a makeup wipe. And when I see people use it I'm like AGHHHH NOO! I have lash extentions so I use micellar water to remove my makeup.

Love watching these videos. I’m learning so much 🤓. I learn something new with each video. I have super sensitive skin and I’m currently recovering from having an allergic reaction to the Cerave face wash for oily skin 😭 but I’m still on the lookout for a new gentle cleanser and moisturizer. I actually just picked up the same La Roche face wash for when my current cleanser runs out and hoping I don’t have the same reaction as the Cerave 😂😂😂

The ordinary 7% glycolic & the niacinamide serum broke me out🤷‍♀️🤔. Once I removed those products from my routine my skin calmed down. Alternatively, the ordinary lactic acid 5% gently exfoliates and smooths out my skin.

For products that don't work on my face, I use them on my body, safest bet is legs and arms (especially shins and forearms). I find necks and backs can still be too sensitive sometimes.

Loved this video. Really educative. I do have a question tho. When you do your skincare routine at night with the doule cleanse. Is it unnecessary to still wash your face in the morning but skip the oil cleansing ? And if you can skip the cleansing in the morning, can i just use a toner to cleanse my face or that is also unnecessary ?
