It can be somewhat sensitive on and off for up to a month but you should do a follow up with the dentist to check the filling if it’s still sensitive.

For anyone on here who is experiencing pain, or any discomfort after seeing your dentists and being told "nothings wrong", i suggest going and seeing an Oral surgeon. They are real doctors, with better equipment to see what your issues might be. I wont go into a too much detail but for me i went to 3 different dentists who were highly recommended for a painful situation that they ignored because they couldnt see anything. I spent alot of money getting work done on a different tooth because they said thats the one causing you the pain....even though it was not (they seemed to think i was having referred pain). Long story short and a failed cap which led to a failed root canal later, went to an oral surgeon who showed me the original tooth had a crack in it so instead of only needing one tooth pulled i now needed two because dentists egos get in the way of them listening to you and the pain you know you feel. Sorry for the rant and good day.

I honestly believe that these dentists get so abrasive when it comes to filling the teeth because they just want you to keep coming back for one thing after another, such as adjustments, getting a root canal, crowns, etc, because that's their way of making more money. I had gotten a huge filling put into a tooth that already had a small filling. I thought the dentist was just gonna replace the filling only, but no. Instead, he drilled away more enamel, and decided to put a LARGE filling in there. Then, after doing my x rays, he failed to tell me exactly what the issue was when I asked, whether my filling cracked or whether I developed another cavity. He just went on and did it. It's been over a month, and I STILL feel sensitivity and it even hurts. I feel like I can't even go about my day without feeling pain from that filling. Its even hard to chew on that side of my mouth. I can't even rinse my mouth out with anything without it hurting. And once I recently went back to get my teeth cleaned, the female dentist told me that it will take up to 6 months for my sensitivity to go away. But it really shouldn't take that long. Now I see why folks are reluctant into going to the dentist and just let their teeth just deteriorate. I'm sort of thrown off on why this particular dentist have so many good reviews.

Ikr! I had a filling done a month ago and it was small but deep. It has random discomfort and small shooty pains and somedays it settles but then comes right back. but even when it settles its sensitive to hot and cold temperatures. Even room temperature water! Im being told that if it continues then id need to pay for a root canal but i already have one done next to it and its at the front of my face. I smile with these teeth and talk with them, i dont want to have to worry about discoloration, financial struggle, and have to get 2 crowns recemented back on or replaced every 10 years of my life or less! Im only 21 and they didnt say anything about replacing the filling or checking if its leaky. Im afraid that they are trying to get money from me and my anxiety is through the roof. Even when i talk its sensitive to the air i breathe. Idk what to do at this point and i keep having anxiety attacks worrying that I'll need another root canal at the front of my face. 😞💜

My tooth was crooked, so I asked the dentist for a redo because it had a bump. The tooth already had a filling, but I didn’t like how it felt. She removed the old filling and redid it. After the anesthesia wore off, I felt pain when drinking cold drinks and even when inhaling. When I checked the tooth with my tongue and fingers, I noticed that the back wasn’t smooth. I immediately texted the dentist, and she assured me it was fine, saying the sensitivity would go away in a week. However, I later realized what she had done-she shaved the back of the tooth and added filling to the front. Her idea was to fix the crooked appearance, but this changed my bite alignment, making the top tooth no longer meet the bottom tooth. This shift in pressure left no enamel on the back of my tooth, with the front being entirely filling. While it looked less crooked, the back lacked enough filling for proper support. This is what caused the issue. (I only figured this out after analyzing the problem myself.) I waited a week, but the pain persisted. When I returned to her, I explained that the pain was coming from the back of the tooth. Instead of addressing the issue properly, she shaved the filling again and redid it-all without anesthesia so I could immediately let her know if it was fixed. After she finished, I inhaled, and the sensitivity was gone. However, when I drank cold water, I still felt a sharp pain. Later that day, the pain returned when I inhaled or drank water. It felt like the enamel on the back of my tooth was completely gone. At this point, I realized she wasn’t going to explain anything to me because she didn’t know what she was doing. I had to figure it out myself. I watched videos and researched teeth to understand the problem. She kept suggesting nerve extraction, but I refused. Thankfully, I didn’t agree to it because I knew that wasn’t the root cause. The problem became so distracting at school that I decided to visit her again. This time, I told her not to shave anything off and to simply fill the back of the tooth to build on what was already there. This was my third visit. After she finished, I inhaled-no pain. I drank cold water-no pain. Finally, I felt relief. I tested it further by biting a handkerchief as hard as I could, and everything felt fine. The surface was smooth, and I was happy with it. However, I later noticed that the edges of my tooth felt sharp. When I flossed, the thread would get cut. More recently, when I bite into hard things like nuts or bones, I feel the same sharp pain as before. Thankfully, it’s short-lived and goes away as soon as the pressure is released. The pain seems to come from the sharp edges. What frustrates me most is that this dentist graduated from medical school yet messed up my tooth three times, while I, a high school student, had to figure out the root cause. I had to explain the issue to her myself, which makes me seriously question her competence and integrity. I’ve grown to dislike dentists, but for now, I’m managing the situation. I’m using Sensodyne toothpaste for sensitive teeth and avoiding very hard foods. My situation is manageable-I can eat soft to moderately hard foods-and I plan to fully address the tooth issue when I fix my teeth with braces. I’m thankful my situation is better than it could have been, but the experience has left me both frustrated and disappointed.

Thank you. Another dentist on another different channel said that there should be zero pain after a filling which doesn’t really make sense since you are drilling and digging inside tooth so naturally it would be inflamed or sore after. I just got two deep cavities filled on my one side and the numbing hadn’t even wore off all the way but my gums and teeth are so sore and throbbing and hurt worse than when I had cavity open. I just wanted to know if normal or not. I really liked the dentist and her team and she filled a cubits on other side a month ago and I remembered hurting a lot the first day and some the following day but this time it’s even worse but I got multiple teeth worked on this time. I appreciate this info and will wait a day or so to see if improved. As a kid, my filled cavities never hurt but they were not as deep either. I was also concerned maybe I was having a reaction to the actual composite material. The pain is pretty bad.

My new dentist said my old one could have missed it because of poor xrays etc. Its upsetting that I need a root canal without ever having known a cavity exists. I take pretty good care of my teeth, albiet not perfect but I dont understand why this happened. The old dentist also gave me a mouth guard that didnt fit right for clenching and said they couldnt adjust it( they recounted that statement last time i was their.) worried clenching and poor practice has caused more and more issue and that my mouth wont be healthy moving forward.
