Father can you wear a metal scapular of Our Lady of Mt Carmel? My fabric one wears out. Blessed mother hear my prayers. Watch over my sister who has lost her faith. She is sick and I don’t know if she will live. I ask for the forgiveness of her sins, especially the ones she is unaware of.

I wear the metal one in the shower and then swap back to the cloth scapular. I’ve also made a little drawstring bag to hang round my neck and I tuck the scapular inside it. It doesn’t wear out quickly or even get dirty that way.

Have your priest enroll you in the Brown Scapular Confraternity. This is a simple ceremony which can be performed by any priest. The members of the Confraternity have the added benefit of sharing in all the spiritual benefits of the Carmelite Order. Your first Scapular, when you are enrolled will be blessed. After that you need not have each new Scapular blessed, because the original blessing stays with you.
