The song you guys are searching for might be "you can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles" or "500 miles". Its very old song and there are a few different names. But only "the whistle blow" is actually in the lyrics. Maybe your brain turned it into that from hearing the song in the radio while growing up or so and remembering bits of it. And combined it with the sound the tyre was making.
