Once history classes were removed from our educational systems, the drive for preserving our nation's history became dormant. This generation is about erasing, and revising history to feed their feeble hearts. Knowing history is the power of knowledge, of which governments and elites fear the most. History tends to repeat themselves, one can not know when it will happen unless they know their history whether it is state, nation or world history. This generation is doomed, they will not see or know the signs when dark days are coming upon them.

We have PWs all over the South. There was a gas/convenience store called Hoggly Woggly, with an automated carwash. The car wash had big signs stating "Hogwash". Someone decided they were offended by the sign (an oversized person?) so the signs were removed, and the store folded soon thereafter.

Piggly Wiggly opened a store here. Great fanfare and publicity. Many people went. Once... Heck some might remember Mick or Mack stores, that for years was the only place to get really good lard, prices and selection were comparable to the bigs but the municipalities in a lot of places taxed them out... And after watching trains allow people to get off and grab their forgotten stuff, board late and so on, it seems to me that the railroads still embody a lot of that Georgia fallen flag slogan of "Courtesy and service." You won't get that from a jet plane!

Well first the fort is a replica, the original one burnt down ages ago, and because of poor maintenance this replica has become structurally unsound.

Belen had a Piggly Wiggly and a Safeway, but with the creation of Amtrak, Belen lost the passenger rail and both stores closed down. Several retail outlets (Sprouse Reitz, T.G. & Y, Sears catalog store) made a go of it for a couple of years, but they also shut down. The merger of BNSF and twenty Hollywood movies made there breathed new life into the town.

Fort Madison has been there since the 1830s my guess would be due to rot.

The site is being opened up so pedestrians can visit the fort without having to pay. The buildings won't be open, however. The current replica fort was built in 1988, but is in need of much repair. It may get replaced altogether.

This is a 1970s replica depicting its 1803 appearance as the original would've been located where the tracks are at 369 ave H (the camera is at 709 ave H) 10:20 private cars on the rear of the California Zephyr 12:18 D&H hopper 13:08 New Haven P32AC-DM 230. It is owned by CTDOT as are the passenger cars with the red stripe 13:47 three locos for a heavy haul of a large machine 14:21 CRRC carbodies tarped up. I don't see a logo on either tarp 15:58 NS 1070 as mid-train DPU 16:45 Utah Frontrunner Comet I coaches! These were stored at the Abilene & Smoky Valley for a while after being retired in 2022. HRMX is Heritage Rail Management. 19:05 sequential locomotive together! 22:30 train snaps in half! 23:52 NS 8101 as DPU

Great grab bag. Lunatic Darwin had no idea whether a train was approaching on either of the other two tracks! @@donnaj9964 From Utah to somewhere else. UTA (Utah Transit Authority) removed them from service back in 2022 due to maintenance costs (they were nearly 50 years old at the time); they auctioned off some number of them later once they decided they didn't need to keep them around in reserve.

If the ride is so smooth that it won’t disturb a sleeping kitten, they’ll handle your freight pretty gently too. It certainly was a concern back in the day. There’s plenty of old railroad training films here about cargo handling and the costs to the railroad of damaged goods.

Chessie, the sleeping kitty, was a primary promotion for the C&O passenger service, especially the overnight Pullman services, where the ride that would not disturb the sleeping kitty would appeal to their human customers. The pre-war campaign became so popular, with parent felines Chessie and Peake, that an entire promotional campaign for the whole railroad was generated that took on a life of its own-and legends were born!
