@Sad Life It _sounded_ like sorta-stilted sarcasm at the time to me, but in a bit of a meta way it might have been a combination of reserving spell slots and avoiding another “Final Boss Door” situation from C1 (specifically, repeatedly trying and failing to do something that honestly wasn’t as difficult as their failed rolls made it).
