@seeleyboothfan Gast was actually the head of the Jenova project, and was Lucretia and Hojo's boss. Odly enough, he's also Aeris's father. I'd also guess that Sephy was raised in the Shinra building, by everyone. Apparently, he never found out about Hojo being his father (he also considered him to be a total d-bag), and respected Gast a lot.

@seeleyboothfan Gast went to live with Aerith's mother Ifalna and eventually gave birth to Aerith. He was killed as shinra went to find Ifalna. Technically hojo is the biological father to sephiroth as his child with lucrecia was injected with the jenova cells, hence sephiroth calls jenova mother. As for the statue i've always imagined it was just a casing and as for the blood that is the actual jenova cells.
