The Allegheny stop is also known to locals as K & A (Kensington & Allegheny). I lived there back in the 1970s, a LOT cleaner and busier with most of the storefronts open. Kensington Ave back then was like a mall, with stores down both sides selling everything. "The Avenue" was choked with traffic, and double-parked cars were a constant thing. Within 1 block: 3 banks, 1 diner restaurant (still open), McDonald's, a movie theater (Midway), 4 shoe stores, a Woolworth's, York clothing, two pharmacies (neither a chain but did a lot of business), a dentist, 2 dry cleaners, TV shop, and 2 blocks down was Levin's Furniture (which took up like 5-6 storefronts).

Right below that station is arguably the biggest open drug use area in the country. It is like a third world country there with plenty of youtube videos showing it. Just search Kensington Ave Philadelphia.

CoasterQ, wow 🤩! A buddy had warned me about that area. Glad I stayed on the platforms and didn’t go down on the ground! Russ
