I agree with a lot of the things you guys said. The song's chorus is very catchy. But overall, I don't think the song stands out too much especially compared to their later works. I do have this on occasionally and jam to it, but it definitely isn't my favorite. That aside, I still appreciate the song a lot for two main reasons: 1. It's their debut song, so duh, it has to have a special place in my heart 2. The message of this song cannot be overlooked. South Korea's education system is known for being very harsh. Young people in Korea are pressured to grind and study to go to a good college/university. Because of this, teen suicide rate in Korea is one of the highest in the world and was the highest, at one point, in the world. Not many musicians/artists talked about this back then or even now, since it is a subject area that is considered taboo. This was an extremely bold move, especially considering this was a debut song of an "idol group". Their earlier songs and albums are definitely not as complex and well-produced compared to their more recent ones. But I have a ton of respect for them for putting out these messages.

I feel the same way, i like this song for it's message but is not my favorite. But at those times they were new to comosing and producing also didn’t have a big team like they have now and they improved a lot over time. I mean groups like blackpink and exo from the big 3 had bigger and well known producers with many hits songs to the point they do all the work but the artist, maybe this is the reason why they feel so shallow, not that BTS dosen't have few shallow songs.

This is the song I felt like "Oh! I'm definitely a fan." because of the message behind it. I'm still finding me own path now, and I really need to remind myself keep working on my dream. The confidence in their voices and their straight attitude just give me the strength to go through others' doubts and self-doubt.

I think what is remarkable about this song is how it called out to young people to think about what they want in life instead of what society expects you to be. Particularly for Asian youths, parental and societal expectations are insane. SK has one of the highest suicide rates and part of it is because they are constantly ‘reminded’ that their lives are based on what scores they get on high school/college entrance exams. That was the Sexiest reading of lyrics ever. Love it! 💜. This their very first song so they all look so young and for sure you can see their artistic and asthetic growth since then. But the lyrics from this song thread through their later work. Several songs talk about dreams including the new songs in their 2022 compilation album Proof. You will hear the line “big house, big cars and big rings” repeated in later songs. In the album Map of the Soul 7 in 2020, Suga says in his solo “Shadow “ -- “On top of that, you have a big house, big cars, big rings, …You have everything you wanted” Shadow talks about the pressures brought on by fame and fortune and how he accepts his shadow (dark part of his personality) as part of himself.

My first video of BTS was Dynamite. Then I checked out this song and they scared me in the first minute of the song. But then, I needed to know that they were singing about, what are they saying. Then I got it and appreciated the video. Wow, you can imagine the shock if your first experience with BTS was Dynamite. LOL :)

The first time saw this video, I had already consumed a lot of BTS content and had seen their current videos. I reacted like you, watching it as an adult, I thought they were adorable. Their early works are a little kitschy but they were trying to create their identify as a group. As we know now, they’ve improved more and more with the passing years. But, like Soare said, I would’ve identified with the message when I was younger in middle school or high school. And I still believe its a good message for kids whole are constantly under pressure to meet societal expectations.

It's great that from the very beginning there was so much input from all the members especially lyrically, which is why the growth is so noticeable. It was really focused at the adolescent market, because there were and still are huge societal pressures on the young in South Korea. From the very beginning they were saving lives by being a relatable and understanding voice for struggling teens.

Hi, i am back. Good reaction, ty. Great song. So catchy. JK rapping is chef's kiss. When I 1st heard this i was like oh i like this. This one is a hit. Remember BTS debuted as a hip hop group. Their debut songs were catchy and they were cute. The rapline had promise. Yes, JK is a sub rapper. If u love rap and have listened to it all ur life u can see this is cringe. But for us who are not rap fans we liked this. It was catchy and still is catchy. I listen to all their rap and i don't even like rap like that. They all can rap. And it's been almost 10 years since debut. snorts. Back than they did as the agency suggested. They did not know what they were doing. But they worked hard. Going to America during American Hustle Life they learned what real rap is. They grew from that experience a lot. They all trained for 2-3 years except Jimin. Jimin trained 6-8 months. Than they practice for this stage for 3-6 months, 12-16 hrs daily. They run on treadmills while singing. They had passion. They had drive and yeah they were angry. But they worked so hard and true army noticed. They grew slow and steadily but they always had more ppl then they predicted show up to concerts and other stuff. They truly are a gem of a group. Hugs. -NY USA 2019 Army💟 Aishwarya Kabra said on 12/20/22 SUGA's "I wanna big house, big cars and big rings" is so iconic. He reused it so many times and each time with different meaning behind it. Morgan Graves said on 12/20/22 One of my favorite quotes was when the boys were watching their debut stage and Hobi said “You can see the passion in our eyes” & Tae in all seriousness replies “It’s the eyeliner” 😂. RM wore glasses because ppl did not like his eyes. We love his dragon eyes and we are glad he stopped letting others affect him so. Also, i think he had eye surgery. There is a live where he says he can see us better. Something like that.

Fetus Bangtan lol! They are so cute lol! I don't quite get the lyrics reading part. Like almost all BTS mvs have the lyrics attached so. Although I will say that often times the Korean lyrics when translated are not a word for word translation but more that the meaning of what is being said is in English translation. So I guess I can see that.

I funnily think the exact opposite, i think if i have gotten into BTS during their debut i wouldn't have liked No More Dream but now i feel like as an adult I accept more how they started and I am not so hard on their early music and i still listen to it a lot. Side note: also it has rapper Jungkook which doesn't come up to often in their music nowadays so i really appreciate it in this song.

I'm exactly the same lmao. I became ARMY in 2017 not long before DNA came out (so I guess I'm a YNWA Army). My First songs were Dope, Boy in Luv, and Jump. I couldn't get into it, but kept Jump on my phone because damn that song is catchy. Anyway like a month after that I decided to give it another shot and watched Blood Sweat and Tears........😂 I was hooked instantly and so my downfall began. (PS: I love all the above songs now and have no idea why they didn't capture me when I first heard them 😂). No more dream isn't my typical style of music, so If it wasn't BTS and I didn't already absolutely adore them, I don't think I'd like it much.

I'm a 4 year ARMY and I share their opinion of this particular song. I appreciate the message and how it highlights their growth, but this is definitely not a favorite for me either. Don't dislike it, because of the history it shows, but if this had been my introduction to BTS, I'm not sure I would have looked farther. Doesn't really matter in the long run, people are allowed to not love everything BTS has out and still love them. I appreciate the honesty and trust Septa and Soar have in ARMY, that they can be "critical" and still love BTS. You can love something/someone and still see flaws.
