Around november is when I used to re-read all the HP books, because it's around the time the movies were being released (the first few and some later on). Because of that, my November spreads are usually magic-related (I guess "dark academia" too). I really love the monthly cover you made 🌸

To me there is nothing better then re-reading a book. It’s like a warm hug to go back into those worlds! Also your journal videos are so fun to watch. I started a reading journal because of your videos, so thank you!!

Ahhh, you're making me want to reread Harry Potter! But I just started a Percy Jackson reread... have you ever read PJ? Also, yes, people are always going on about how the movies did Ron dirty - and it definitely did - but Harry? What was done to Harry is not talked about enough! The movies sucked all the personality out of him... book Harry is so funny and sassy, he's actually my favorite character

🐦🦁 I extraordinarily like the Harry Potter spread. That Griffin pennant stands impressive ricocheting on the Phoenix. The rating stamp exists as something enigma to me. Nowadays read Holly by Stephen King. You can conform to through with the identical. Unprecedented employment. 🐦🦁

Love these spreads. The first hp book came out when I was 11 and I have been waiting on my hogwarts letter ever since lol. Also, thank you for your sensible and nuanced take on jkr. My preferred reading order for tog is ab 1st and tod after eos. I read tog series on audiobook and wonder if someone has a guide on how to listen to eos/tod in tandem on audiobook 🤔

Bestie, I’m not sure I can keep watching your videos if you’re supporting/ignoring the harm that JKR had done. She is powerful enough to harm people and is making life harder for trans people. Please reconsider your continual promotion of her works.

I totally get reading HP in your language! This year I’ve read Philosopher’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets for the first time in English (the beautiful MinoLima edition) and the nostalgia was not there. Some terms I didn’t recognise (even though I know movies very well) because I’m so used to polish translation

The thing with jk rowling though is that we know she does have the same bigoted opinions she wrote in the books. Of course you can still enjoy the books - I still like them - but I think it's important to acknowledge that the author is in fact a bigot who is actively causing harm to the trans community. She has publicly posted very harmful comments, published an entire book full of anti-trans rhetoric and puts money into anti-trans organizations.
@prettywitchery
@prettywitchery 9 ай бұрын
The problem with JKR isn't that she has "personal views" it's that she is actively hateful towards trans people and trying to make changes that will hurt people. And she can. She has a platform, she has influence, her work is going to get published by someone, no matter what. I get it, I love HP too, but she's not getting another penny from me. Obviously reading old books doesn't do that. But it's also not exactly like reading Lovecraft, where the problem behind the work can't do any more harm because he's really super dead. It's also worth considering that her other pen name (Robert Galbraith) is explicitly the name of an American psychiatrist who was very into gay conversion therapy and the books she writes under that name explicitly villanise trans characters, repeatedly. This isn't a critique against people revisiting a childhood love, Hogwarts certainly calls to me now and then but she has shown us who she is and she does throw her fame behind her hateful cause and I personally find it hard to be comfortable like I once was. Which sucks.
@hopemills3908
@hopemills3908 9 ай бұрын
THIS!!! Having a platform and still supporting HP and JKR is reckless because she has to power to and is actively hurting trans people

But to be honest, there are SO MANY authors who think differently and who have acted in a questionable (and horrible) way, like the humans they are, that we would just might as well stop reading... that is my conclusion after so much going on lately with cancel culture. So my approach is to apply critical thinking and dissagree when necessary and enjoy art for what it has to offer. I love HP and I won't stop just because the author has a point of view. In other matters, rereading is so good, I'm glad you make pages for that too and take it into account. Beautiful pages.

It was not hard for me to stop supporting HP because I never bought the books. Also, if there were ever any HP movies, I won't be going to watch it. It is a personal choice and everyone is free to do as they please.

I think I read somewhere or you said it in one of your videos, that you dont like thrillers, but maybe someone else would like it :D … My suggestion for spooky season would be „Ég man þig“ in English „I remember you“ by Yrsa Sigurðardóttir. It takes place in Iceland in different locations, one of them is a place in fjord that can only be reach with a boat… It was a pretty scary ghost story and I‘ve read a lot of thrillers over the years and I was really impressed by this story and how all the storylines of the different characters came together in the end :-)

I, like many really do not like J.K as a person because of her views but it’s just part of being human. But I do LOVE the WORLD of Harry Potter. I love the Magical World, the Characters, the settings. That’s what I love and I’ll never stop loving it. I may not ever buy another book from her if it’s not Harry Potter related though 📚 Love the spreads as always, you’re such an inspiration to me ❤❤

I wouldn’t call it a witch hunt against Rowling personally, but a completely justified criticism of her and her works. And I do agree that literary works can stand on their own and can be interpreted separately from their authors’ viewpoints/intentions. I just simply don’t find that to be true for Rowling’s works. Don’t get me wrong, I was OBSESSED with HP when I was younger just like everyone else, and she was my favourite author back then. I just think it’s different to say the books (and the rest of her works) can stand on their own separately from the author, when one isn’t part of the communities that she is actively attacking and demonizing. As a trans person, I absolutely no longer feel comfortable supporting anything that she touches. Moreover, it would be a different story about the books standing separately from the author and their viewpoints, if she hadn’t continued to double down on her bigotry, and connecting her bigotry to her works. She is continuing to use her fame from HP to inspire hate and violence against marginalized communities. And even in the books itself you can see traces of her bigotry. It’s a well known fact that some books don’t age well and are products of their time, but it is the fact that she continues to double down on her bigotry, and CONTINUE to write books inspiring transphobic and ableist violence that I simply cannot stand. I’m able to reconcile the two facts that: 1) HP as a series was completely life changing for me just like you Hedda, and was what inspired me to keep reading and become a writer myself, but also 2) that Rowling is a hateful bigot and that her books are rife with her bigotry and I cannot in good conscience ever support or read her works again.
9 ай бұрын
Thank you for that, I also wouldn't call it a witch hunt! I have reread HP recently and think anyone that wants to do so, they can but I draw the line at financially supporting her through buying books, games, etc

Everyone needs to decide for themselves how they feel about consuming art from questionable artists. I will do what I feel is right, and let others decide on their own. I stopped listening to Marilyn Manson and I won’t buy Rowling’s books. I’m fine with reading the ones I already own, though. Either way, do what you feel comfortable with!
@alliberry
@alliberry 9 ай бұрын
There is a difference between reading the books and supporting the author. I already own the same set of HP books that I read as a child, 20 years ago, just like you. I enjoy re-reading them, just like you. But it's important to not support such an awful, bigoted, racist, transphobic, antisemitic person. That means don't buy HP merch, movie tickets, new books, Audible e-books, video games, etc. Giving her your money means giving supporting her platform of hate. I'm not saying you're personally doing that - I just want to make the distinction for the broader audience.

I find it hilarious that so many can trash an author over her views while giving “their” views. The main thing wrong in this world is people only have tolerance for their ideas. It just seems people have such a tough time to be tolerant.
@laqsemprecau
@laqsemprecau 8 ай бұрын
When the ideas go against human rights, should be no tolerance at all. It's not about being vegetarian or not, we're talking about ACTUAL human rights and the ones like J. K. Rowling with a huge voice HAVE to be cancelled if they attempt to those human right.
