Gardening at Douentza

This is the September garden tour of my garden, Douentza. In this video I'm ensuring that good structure is in place for winter by hedge trimming etc. I also talk about focal points and a change I will be making to improve a view.

Finally getting to enjoy your Garden tour video! Early morning here in Australia 🇦🇺. Tried earlier while still in bed but the volume disappeared so I switched my phone off & decided I’d watch on the TV instead.

Disanthus, related to Witch Hazel. Looked it up. Acalypha would give a similar effect over here.

The lily speciosum var rubrum stems can just be tied to the branches behind it in order to keep them upright. No need to shove a stake into the soil.

We here in the USA are losing are boxwoods to the blight. Glad to see yours are doing better. Since yours have recovered, will they now be resistant?
@GardeningatDouentza
@GardeningatDouentza 10 ай бұрын
Yes, box blight is now in the states. Such a pain. The answer to your question is, no. My box has not been made resident. In fact the blight spores can remain in the soil for up to five years and reinfect at any time, if disturbed.

your garden is looking fabulous! Mine looks liek a jungle- the borders are now 9 years old and I definitely need to re-vamp them. It's having the time to do them. When the weather cool down and we are scheduled a bit of rain. I will try to start them then. One border is so overgrown with Alstroemeria that my poor Heleniums and Geums have been swamped. I am hopeless at editing borders, always upset at the plants that need to be removed. I must be more ruthless. A chance to donate the 'thinnings' to neighbours and friends. Happy gardening. Bless you 😃

It is hard sometimes to get rid of good plants that have grown too big for their spot. Alstroemeria is vigorous. My long border was planted in 2018 but already the alstroemeria needs thinning as it's getting a bit thuggish.

I love the Actaea... Which kind is the one you have?

Sorry but I don't know which Actaea this is. I grew it from seed I collected years ago @hrm266

@@GardeningatDouentza thank you! I know it's difficult from seed. I tried it with the Cimicifuga without succes.
@GardeningatDouentza
@GardeningatDouentza 10 ай бұрын
@@hrm266I think cimicifuga is now called actaea and one and the same as my plant. Name changes, eh 🙄 There may have been stratification involved to germinate my seeds but I would have to check my notes. I did this a very long time ago. I really love cimicifuga/actaea, especially the dark leaved ones, but they generally need more moisture than I can provide. Except this year, of course, when we could have grown rice.
