It's so good to get a back yard garden channel for Brisbane suburbs. I didn't get pineapples either but I got a heavy crop of Mandarins and Lemonades. Also Mulberries are cropping heavily. My bananas have done absolutely nothing for over a year. No ground crops this year though. I'm a lazy gardener lol. Thanks for a very helpful channel. I appreciate how much work goes into it.

Maybe the wetter winters threw the pineapples off? We haven’t committed to a lot of trees yet as we’re moving stuff around all the time, can’t wait to increase the citrus trees. Thanks for watching.

I was in chermside bananas never did well now I am palm beach on a hill they grow absolutely crazy same as paw paw and pineapples

I haven’t had issues with bananas, we got two big ones during winter. Pawpaw I’ve struggled with, I think it is the location though

@@loveofdirt Location for me too, I think. My nanies get a lot of arvo shade so I'm going to replant the suckers into a more full sun position. I usually get volunteer pawpaw but they've been quiet as well. Just got to keep trying, I guess lol

We did the same here in SW Canada 🇨🇦 it was no cooler May and June but just went straight to heat, it was still 32c yesterday 🥵. Beds look amazing and the bees will love the brassica flowers. Stay cool, Ali 🌞🇨🇦

Seedlings I'd been fighting to keep warm in Toowoomba suddenly bolted to leggy and falling over. So I guess I'm starting that again. Thankfully only a few flowers.

Yeah I am happy I chucked some seeds in July for my zucchini but having said that the August one is catching up in growth. I’ll have them coming out of my ears soon enough.

@loveofdirt the first year I grew them, years ago back in the UK. I had no idea how prolific they were, I supplied all my neighbours, and my poor son still won't eat them anymore and he's 30 now haha.

You could try putting some PVC pipe around your paw paw trunk when it’s fruiting to stop possums climbing them 🤔 It worked for our mango tree but it was in the open with nothing else around

I think they jump on it from the roof, it’s like the direct path from their nest to our roof.

Hi nicki, all looking there. Have you ever tried growing cassava. It grows well over summer and doesn't take up much space. The verigated type is a great looking plant and can be found and ross creek tropical at certain times. Cheers

Garden looks lush and abundant. Go girl🌈🌻🌈. I’ve just got a load of tuckeroo mulch ie more leaf than chips...do you use it on beds immediately or wait ...if so, how long? I was thinking to make paths between beds with it. Lettuce...I’ve had success by putting different thicknesses of black shade cloth over it to hold it back/protect from the sun. I even used thick drawer liner plastic (with holes). That delayed it so it was harvested a few weeks after the lighter shade cloth. ..great to stagger the crop. I’ve no irrigation and I note each of your beds has it. Not a clue on how to do it. Have you or can you do a video on how to install it. Thanks 😁

I’ve not heard of that mulch before. I usually use sugar cane on beds and wood chip on paths around fruit trees. If mulching I usually go straight in unless I am waiting for seeds. I always add a bit of organic xtra (slow release fertiliser) and water in with seaweed extract. We’ll bring that shade cloth out for sure later in the season. As for irrigation someone else asked about this, I have in-depth instructions of how I do it inside dirt lovers but I might do a quick video on the setup, it’s pretty simple.

I find cabbage aren’t too bad, they do take forever though, if you can keep the water/nutrients up to them they should be fine.

I am not sure what the varieties are specifically, I have 2 types though. One is standard orange, the other is purple skin, white flesh. They do require ‘maintenance’ so they don’t take over, lots of relocating when they surface in the wrong spots. I’ve found these little raised beds are good for keeping them in control, I usually cut any bits off that try to escape.

I've had great success with purple skin/white flesh here in Brisbane. I think that's the best for our conditions. Plus it tastes really good

Last year was the first time growing it, we’ve always had success with the yellow ones and I agree it’s nicer tasting. I’ll have to test out which performs better this year .

I didn't weigh them, but I filled 2 x 65L pots. I did weight them when we did a 1x1 lasagne bed and we got about 13kgs from that.

I started with a layer of cardboard then a deep layer of mulch, I top up the mulch every 12 months. It’s over due for it at the moment.
