I finally read The Power by Naomi Alderman. Highly recommend. It really made me think about gender, humanity, power dynamics, etc. I also finished the Themis Files series. I didn’t think the last book was as good unfortunately, but I’m glad I finished it.

Hey, Emily! Since you read The Radium Girls, if you like to read plays, I STRONGLY recommend These Shining Lives. I think you would love it, and reading a play could be an interesting change for you.

My two favourites were the last two I finished actually. What we were promised (Lucy Tan) and A Gentleman of Moscow(Amor Towles) are my 5 star reads. One is a chinese family drama and the other is a russian historical fiction that takes place in during stalin's reign. I didn't expect to love these two but I really did. One was fast paced the other a slow burn both amazing!

For fantasy I'd recommend trying: The Toy Makers by Robert Dinsdale (quite the Christmassy/snowy read), or the Human cycle by J.D. Estrada. If you like gory stuff that plays on fear maybe the Demon Cycle by Peter V. Brett. For suspense: The Dark Victoriana Collection by Christie Stratos (Anatomy of a darkened heart and Brotherhood of Secrets). For magical realism: The Stolen Child or Angels of Destruction by Keith Donohue or Gingerbread by Robert Dinsdale Manga: Plantinum End Historical fiction: House of Names by Colm Toibin Sci-fi: On the Edge of Gone by Corinne Duyvis, or possibly the radio play version of The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy Some random books I enjoyed I can't clearly put my finger on the genre: The Witches of East End trilogy by Milissa de la Cruz Named of the Dragon by Susanna Kearsley If you can understand and read Dutch (probably not the case), I might have some more random recommendations there as well.

I read some really great books this month, darker shade of magic and Eleanor Oliphant both come to mind. I'm slumping but I'm giving myself permission to. I read so much this summer and now that the fall routine is here, it's just impossible to keep it up at the same pace and that's ok! Unfortunately, all of my library holds are coming in and I'm not able to get to them. So I'm cancelling a few holds but I should be able to get my hands on the seven deaths of evelyn hardcastle this month so I'm excited about that.

I also read it this month and I LOVED IT. It was a bit of a slow read for me but that was because I just wanted to savour it and actually enjoy it, which I really did. It's definitely a series I can't wait to continue. I'm so glad you enjoyed it too!

I actually loved "I'm Thinking Of Ending Things". It's definently worth searching up the meaning behind the story and then reading the police dialogues backwards. When you get the gist of the meaning... you realise what really was going on (and it's so sad). Apart from that, I really enjoyed the way the author could create such a creepy atmosphere and create such tension and a constant feeling of unease. Really made it feel like you were in the main character's shoes.

I love your reviews and appreciate the content that you post. One thing I have noticed is that I can't search for specific books on your channel since you review several at a time. If you included a list of the books that you were going to cover in the video would it make it searchable? For example, on Craigslist any word that you include in your post automatically becomes searchable. Is there a way to do the same on KZbin? It might bring more traffic to your channel. Thanks again for your wonderful, honest, and helpful reviews.

I finally gave into my impulse to read books that had hype around them. I read “Snowflower and the Secret Fan” by Lisa See, “The Astonishing Color if After” by Emily X.R. Pan, and “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” by Taylor Jenkins Reid. All these books helped me get out of my slump. Then I decided to listen to the audio of “At the Mountains of Madness” by H.P. Lovecraft and I was let down. I was so into almost the first half of the audio then they talked about rock formations and I just never got back into the book. The slump returned but hopefully the next book gets rid of it.

Just read what you want to read. Also: The Demon Cycle by Peter V. Brett is some great horror fantasy. Plays a lot with fear, especially book 1, The Warded/Painted Man. It's also gory and has rape happening throughout the books. I totally recommend this not very PG book series. :D My fave book I read the last couple of months was probably Gingerbread by Robert Dinsdale or maybe the book I'm still reading (Under the Pendulum Sun by Jeanette Ng).
