Septic System Repair - Inspect Septic Tank Baffle

This video describes the inspection of a residential septic tank baffle.
It is critically important to inspect the septic tank baffle regularly, probably once a year if your tank is 10 years or older. It is easy to do, especially if you have a septic tank riser and lid that extends to grade. The inspection will take about 10 minutes total if you have the tank riser and lid which enables easy access.
If the septic tank baffle fails, it will ruin your leachfield and you will have to spend thousands of dollars to replace it. It’s kind of like checking the oil in your car that way - it’s easy to do but if you don’t do it and it runs too low, you’ll be spending big bucks for a new engine.
Baffles made from concrete as part of a concrete septic tank are prone to failure. At the first sign of deterioration, they should be removed and placed with a PVC baffle.
