All with completely hateable characters, not an original bone in its body, annoying as hell controls, and a bad ending you have to actually 100% the game to obtain The final game in the franchise, Gunslinger, goes back to form and may be the best game in the franchise, but it was too little too late, the COJ games died because of The Cartel, and fans hate it ever since

Also, there's like this weird card game called Mario Party-e, but it's extremely rare and obscure, and you'd need the Gameboy Advance's e-reader in order to play the minigames. The original Doom started out as an Aliens game, but id Software quickly shifted gears to making it an original IP so they'd have more creative freedom. It's a damn good thing they did! I recall there was some sort of Beanz (was that what the brand was called?) videogame that started development as a Sonic skateboarding game for the XBox. I think Ninjabread man went through a process of this nature, as well. Devil May Cry started out as an early build of Resident Evil 4. (Might as well get that one out of the way in your next video!) Assassins' Creed began development as "Prince of Persia: Assassin". Dark Souls was originally meant to be "Demons' Souls II", but From Software somehow lost the license to their own IP to their publisher, so they got a different one, and made Dark Souls. Heck... DONKEY KONG was originally supposed to be a Popeye game. It's a damn good thing they never got the license! The whole world would be so different if Donkey Kong was never released!

The Lego Movie 2 Videogame. It took more after Lego Worlds than anything, and even as someone who genuinely liked Lego Worlds, TLM2V deviated too much from the original plot, featured big empty worlds with nothing in them, and resorted to loot boxes for its main collectibles. Characters don't have unique abilities like in other games, the puzzles are incredibly simplistic, probably due to the Lego Worlds approach, and it's just not any fun to collect stuff. In a Lego game. With every Sparkle Brick mission being more or less exactly the same, and not much in the way of meaningful unlockables, this Lego game f*cked up what Lego games do best: collecting things.

Both were intended as DB games, but it is blatantly obvious that the former was done to pull more sales from the Budokai fans (a series of games which had gone on for 3 years prior). I really like Tenkaichi but Japan didn't have a similar name brand for the two series. Ultimate Tenkaichi was intended to bank off nostalgia for the Budokai Tenkaichi games a generation later and didn't have the name crossover in Japan as well. Unfortunately that a game that's actually infamous for being bad by any measure and it has no gameplay similarities of note. The only praise possible is that Ultimate Tenkaichi was the first DBZ game outside Japan to allow the creation of characters. That's a trend that Xenoverse did much better with many races but that never appealed to me.

Here's my favorite: Super Mario 2/Super Mario USA/Doki Doki Panic. You know the story, right? Nintendo thought The Lost Levels was too hard for an American audience of children and so they took some other seemingly random platformer, slapped the Mario cast on it, and called it a day? Well not really, not that at all. Early in its development it was envisioned as a Mario title, then Nintendo got a license to make a game around the mascots to a specific mask-themed festival, thus influencing their designs of the enemies and aesthetics of their levels taking on a little bit of an Arabian Nights vibe. Everything other than the main characters was original to Nintendo. It was due to the uncreative and lackluster nature of "the real SMB2", not its difficulty, that Nintendo decided not to bother localizing it and instead took what had once been the prototype of SMB3 and changed the non-Nintendo mascot characters into the Mario Brothers, Toad, and the Princess. They made some aesthetic tweaks to work mushrooms and turtle shells into the game. So the game changed from Mario to not Mario and then back to Mario.
@TheMGMfan4 жыл бұрын
Actually, the difficulty was part of the issue, but not really because it was too hard for American gamers; the problem was actually that the video game industry was just revived at the time, so Nintendo of America feared that the sequel to the NES's best selling game being so hard would scare off potential new fans and possibly undo all of the progress they made. You could argue that NES games are known for their high and sometimes unfair difficulty, and they are, but Mario waa far more popular than all of them, so it makes sense that they don't want Mario specifically to be that hard. However, unoriginality was also an issue, as Nintendo of America wanted to show progress in their games, and The Lost Levels looking and playing identical to the first game wouldn't do so, so you got that part, and everything else, right.
@Lugbzurg4 жыл бұрын

I really like Star Fox Adventures. SF64 is my favorite game in the franchise but I still really like Adventures. It's fun, I didn't mind it being a Zelda clone, the locations were cool and at the time, I thought it was a bold decision to change up the game, which was a fun dog fighting ship game. I also like Krystal as a character and I'm glad they brought her back in Assault and Command. Adventures is the only game that made me play before school. I would wake up, immediately get ready for school and go continue trying to get to the next area. I think it would have been better if we got Dinosaur Planet. I think that would've been a cool new IP that could've gotten multiple sequels. But we didn't get that, we got Adventures and I'm okay with that.

honestly, how I feel about them scraping Dinosaur Planet depends on what the main characters were going to be. If they were going to be anthropomorphic dinosaurs themselves, then I think them turning the game into US Star Fox game is an outrage. However, if the main Heroes were just going to be generic humans, then I'm GLAD they changed it. Yeah, I know it comes off as shoehorning anthropomorphic animals into a game they don't belong, but I don't care. I hate playing as a human.

Surprised Metal Gear Survive didn't make the list. That game was a lie!

Wanted to see you dig up some info regarding how the "original" Resident Evil 4 was reworked into Devil May Cry... Actually that's not exactly on-topic, rather quite the opposite... Oh well...

I was a big fan of the Fossil Fighters games for the Nintendo ds. unfortunately, their games turned into a banjo Kazooie and decided that the original game that everyone knew and loved needed to be reworked into something that completely changed the core gameplay to the point of non-recognition. i abhor fossil fighters frontier since champions was the best sequel to the original in every way. I wish that the series could be rekindled on the switch in some way but sadly I don't think it will ever happen.

Things like this do not really happen nowadays. If it does, it tends to be a lot less noticeable I guess.

To call Starfox Adventures a "terrible idea" would be false because it played a good part of my childhood. If you look past the fact it's a Starfox game and play it as a game, it's a good time. It's a guilty pleasure you can say, just like Sonic 06. But hey, we all have different opinions and I don't hate you for having one of your own. Oh yeah, and Happy Easter my friend :)

Does silent hill 4: the room count for this list? Originally it wasnt meant to be part of silent hill but another game, but konami put the silent hill brand for sales. I think that's right

Paper Mario Sticker Star Please put that on your next video. It got bastardized so hard by Miyamoto's influence on the new team that it didn't end up like a proper sequel and game to Paper Mario Thousand Year Doors.

Chrono Cross, anyone? I know it doesn't *quite* fit with the title's description, and how the devs went out of their way to ensure everyone it wasn't supposed to be a sequel... but c'mon, anyone who played both titles can feel something's off...

Oh by the way Gil, if you loved Quake, check out Chasm: The Rift. Its not a direct sequel and is much slower, but gives off a similar atmosphere and some pretty good eldwitch vibes. You will need to watch some videos or use a jankey sourceport to play it, but its a game I think thats pretty worth it Other than that, also check out Impie Two's Strange Aeons mod for Doom 2 for some more eldwitch shooting action. And Arcane Dimensions for Quakespasm.... Did I miss anything else??
