I’ll say that Mappy, Mappy-Land, and Mappy Kids are also very great and underrated NES Classics that barely get talked about. Sure, Mappy is originally an Arcade title, but the NES version in Mappy is honestly as great as the original Arcade version in my opinion. NES has a lot of under-appreciated classics and the Mappy series is one of them.

@@mistertagomago7974 I mostly agree. Even debated mentioning Crystalis and StarTropics with both recently getting ported to the Switch and both games gaining a decent cult following but still figured they were worth mentioning since they're still not quite household names among NES fans just yet despite their recent surge in popularity (heck, Nintendo of Japan seems to adamantly refuse to acknowledge StarTropics' existence). And while Shatterhand has gained a reputation for being a genuinely great NES game these days, still feel as though it's mostly brought up to make fun of its horrible box art.

I read that the Felix cartoon in the 90’s, Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat was an attempt to be less like Joe Oriolo’s style and more like the style of the original silent cartoons. Joy Mech Fight is a great game exclusive to the Famicom in Japan. Its main character Sukapon is an Assist Trophy in Smash Bros. now. It's a fighting game with Rayman-like limbless robot fighters. Without any limbs, the animations are really smooth for the NES. You can get it on Famicom Switch Online from the Japanese eShop. EarthBound Beginnings the the first game in the EarthBound series. Although it's the least popular, it has its own retro charm and great music and sprites. It follows a lot of the same mechanics and plot used in the next game, EarthBound. You can play it on Wii U Virtual Console, the game originally went translated and localized but unreleased internationally.

I actually remember playing a lot of the tiny Toons adventures games at the time. There’s the one that was talked about here, Then there was one involving a treasure map that actually had a lot more variety in the boss fights because one of the villains would use a mind control helmet on a lot of the characters of the show, Then there was one themed off of amusement park. Nice to hear Little Nemo getting some love! It was always one of those other games you'd rent well getting a multi deal. I think that was always a good way to find something different. Rent something you know then rent something you don't. That way if it did suck you had a back up plan! One of those random games was "Crystalis" by SNK. It's one of those that I often suggest when someone wants something like Zelda or Star Tropics, but different. Like Zelda for it's style of game play, and like Star Tropics for involved plot and RPG elements. Really it does actually have a lot of it's own elements to make it a great title. Set in a future world after the great nucular apocalypse in the year ... 1997 ... yup! It is set in a fantasy setting but it does toss in some techno stuff that takes the plot in strange areas. They did do a GBC remake that tried to work out the plot a little, and not mixed reviews because of it. Well my post could go on about others, but I might save those for any future revisits to this topic!

You should check out Snow bros Its a very similar concept to bubble bobble, but its much better. You play as two snowman and the objective is to freeze your enemies by throwing ice on them, once they are frozen they turn into a snowball and you can kick them to kill more enemies kinda like the shells in Mario. The nes and sega genesis are the best each for their own reasons, nes is easier and slower and has time trial mode which is a fun little diversion after beating the game and the sega Genesis is more fast paced and hard and it has 20 additional floors, hard mode and a plot twist in the story once you beat the first 50 original levels from the nes version.

Some other lesser known NES titles that spring to mind are Shatterhand, Destiny of an Emperor (and its Japan-only sequel), and Ufouria. Journey to Silius, maybe? I feel that one's a bit better known than the first three. Also, speaking of Tiny Toon games, the GameBoy had two completely different platformers! The first one (Babs' Big Break) is a bit bland, but the second one (Montana's Movie Madness) is definitely worth a look.

Metal Storm Also, don't expect the same experience in the Tiny Toons sequel, it's a very different beast.

I think nowadays, the only reason remember that Felix game is for it’s Bootleg on The Genesis and it’s...”Game Over Screen”...

I have a soft spot for The Little Mermaid. Its super short, and you can easily beat it in 10 minutes but I loved playing it and beating it over and over as a kid.

Gradius 2 is a pretty great shoot-em-up, well-done arcade port and overall a better sequel. The only reason it doesn't really get that much attention was because it was Japan-exclusive.

I think Ufouria is a pretty underrated game. In part because it had no U.S. release. Nintendo bizarrely hyped up that and Mega Man 7 on VC when there was nothing to talk about during E3. Ahhh, Wii U days....

Little Nemo is a game I actually feel like most people don't shut up about. Rainbow Islands is good on NES, but it lacks the 2-Player Co-Op, so eh (I know there were two ports of Rainbow Islands to the NES, and the other had Co-Op, but the one he featured was the one without it). That said, still good games. I feel a good underrated game on my list is Wacky Races. Similar platforming feel to Felix with graphics that are just as well done, bosses that can be tricky but all have very satisfying patterns to learn to avoid and counter.

One I feel is very underrated is abadox, a very fleshy shoot em up about a living planet It gives off heavy hellstar remina vibes, and wish more people would talk about it

My 3 underrated games are: Faxanadu: A much better Zelda 2. No one talks about this amazing 2d side scrolling action RPG. The Guardian Legend: Zelda 1 but with Metroid and schmup sections, 10/10. Archon: COMBAT CHESS! Seriously! It's like chess but you have to have the pieces actually fight! Dragons and phoenixes and wizards!!!

Tiny Toons Adventures is underrated? I've heard a lot of people praise it.

I think Mega Man 4-6 is a much more reasonable choice for an underrated game from nearly one of the greatest gaming consoles.

Speaking of Capcom, Yo Noid doesn't receive enough love imo.

I was watching some video and it actually mentioned what the game was before it became yo! noid. Unfortunately I forget what it was called in Japan.

@@JohnDoe-kv3kd In Japan it was called Kamen No Ninja Hanamaru I believe. Instead of Yo Noid you played as a boy, and instead of a yo yo, he threw a bird who would fly back to him to attack.

@@tarantinoish Yep that all seems to line up with what I remember seeing. It's funny though if it weren't for the fact it's a Capcom game it would have been lost to the void of history forever.
