Thank you. I get frustrated by how often Sequential demos become "retro focused". I get it, but it's not how everyone uses them. This also convinced me to switch my Pro 6 for the Pro 5 Module since the warm chords section is basically the sound palette I use exclusively from the Pro 6.
@Conforce3 жыл бұрын
Yeah exactly why I made this I was also afraid to end up with a RETRO brass and funk bass synth… but with some modern effects she comes to life. Maybe I should make a vintage soundset with brass and vintage leads. Could be good money

I have the as1 and that’s a p6 one voice. I have to say I like it for metallic percussion and strange modern sequences but the filter and creamyness and thickness on the p5 is a total different story. The filter just sounds more musical. I never understood that term when it came down to filters only when I started using the p5.. especially with the resonance it’s so lovely and not painful. Some new dsi synths hurt my ears
@Conforce3 жыл бұрын
Last comment, I sold all dsi I ever owned because I couldn’t bond with the rough edgy fuzzy oscillators. Evolver mono, tetra and mopho. Gone. The last was possibly my fav of the budget synths. Nice punch
@ZlinMusic3 жыл бұрын
@@Conforce Haha you sound just like me! I've felt the same exact way about most of DSI's new offerings. I too had a Tetra and sold it--I've also played the Prophet 08/Mopho series. The oscillators definitely can be harsh, especially paired with Prophet 08/6 style filters which are also rather clinical. It's strange though because behind the SEM of the OB6 the same oscillators work wonders. My relationship with the Prophet 6 on the other hand has always been pretty utilitarian--some unique "barely there" pads I love, and it's excellent in a mix because you can throw whatever processing at and it "morphs" into what you want. However, I've never had much fun hearing it's fundamental character. It rarely inspires the direction of a piece, especially now that my synth setup is more well established.

I wasn‘t sure if I want OB6 or P6 … now I have the half answer: I need a P5/P10 instead of the P6! Love the basic tone quality and the simple UI! The OB6 is also very special because of his beautiful filters … Thanks for this nice demo in a Techno context!

I had an OB-6 and much prefer the sound of my P5. The shine of the OB kind of wore off on me after a while. Also, the build quality of the P5 is much better -- OB had awful pot wobble, whereas on the P5 they are bolted to the chassis, as you would expect on a premium synth.
@simonwehner2 жыл бұрын

@@tdel1241 I had to return my first OB-6 (module) because of terrible pot wobble, a poor design flaw for such a premium product. 2nd unit is fine though. I thought about whether I'd have preferred a more versatile synth like the P6 or P5 but I've fallen in love with the OB-6 after a couple weeks of programming patches. I'm getting sounds that not many youtube videos showcase. It's takes a little extra work on lush pads but it's worth it! I am dreaming of adding a P5 next, I've heard enough to convince me it has the edge over the P6 💅

Hey man. Thank you so much for this video. I own a bunch of Moog Synths and I‘m thinking about getting a Dave Smith Synth. I‘m really in love with the mighty sound of the Prophet 5 and it‘s simple design. No deep menu diving. But I make House and melodic techno Musik. Listen to your patches is mind opening. This beautiful sound fits so well in my kind of Musik. All the other videos didn’t show what this synth is all about. So now I‘m shure I will get a Prophet 5. I always do my sounddesign by myself and I am normally not a guy who is buying patches. But I will buy yours mate. You help my in my decision and you‘re patches are great. Thank you very much

Deffo a simplistic synth. Unthinkable that you can come up with original sounds but they sound amazing. Thick and creamy. Can’t really compare it to the hi fi sound of all those DSI synths. I could never bond with that band performance type of synth character

I am an owner of a prophet 6 and it's quite interesting that I cannot even get close to the sound of first patch you play. It's like my variable oscillator is not even near the prophet 5 saw and square combo. Even if the prophet 6 variable oscillator shape can be set between saw and square :). I wonder if this is one of all the things that makes the prophet 5 slightly unique compared to 6. EDIT: It seems to be the curtis filter in the rev 4 which has character difference from the prophet 6.
@Conforce Жыл бұрын
I have the as1 and it’s a prophet 6 mono.. just had a more hifi character.. p5 has more thickness and creaminess.. it sounds a bit more luxurious :-)

Thank you for the confirmation. I notice that most comparision videos between P6 and P5 is a bit missleading since most of them pushes the prophet 5 higher in LP-filter cutoff which of corse makes the synth sound very close to the P6 :) Agree that the synth sounds indeed smoother in the filter. I guess you only used reverbs and no chorus or anything? Thanks!@@Conforce

@@arsenegupengath3104 you haven't tried one I assume...the difference is more than just a little. Check the Alex Ball clip, , I much prefer repro 5. Playing the rev 4 doesn't feel as organic as a vintage rev 3, let alone a rev 2. All of them make great sounds, but rev 4 is more similar to a prophet 6 than a vintage rev 3, first hand experience. Also the SSM clones are not on point, real SSM 2040/2044s.... :) 'lol'. I would prefer a rev 4 over the rev 3 because of 5 additional voices, far better tuning and midi capabilities, it's for sure a nice instrument. a prophet 5 rev 2 is on another level though.
