I totally agree with Jack. The Prophet X is very deep. Interesting enough you can create very easily and very quickly great sounding patches. At the same time there is so much to explore, I am expecting to enjoy learning and playing it for many many years to come. Thanks guys.

Sold this synth soon after I had it. Had a real issue with the built in sample selection. Very limited. The major workstations do a lot more with their available sample memory than this instrument does. The sample editing is also problematic. Very difficult to find zero crossings when looping the sample as you can’t actually view the waveform! Crazy. Also, the built in cross fade is fairly terrible. I’m sure I’ll get hate for this but you really need to sit down with the instrument yourself beyond just playing preset after preset to see where the issues are. One more thing. There are 9999 points in the sample that can be selected regardless of sample size. This means that large samples have far less granularity when editing the sample. It’s a real problem.

Couldn't you edit your samples in a DAW or something like Wavelab? That's how I would do it since most keyboards don't have the same tools as a full featured DAW.
@davidknight7545 жыл бұрын
Pulse2AM sure, if you wanted to break the workflow while designing a new patch. Go ahead and fire up your computer, edit the sample, move the sample into the software provided by 8Dio, turn it into a library, and upload the library into the PX via USB stick. Meanwhile.. in the Quantum for example, simply edit the sample in the synth and move on saving you probably half an hour or more....
@Pulse2AM5 жыл бұрын
@@davidknight754 I have no idea how you work or what you're sampling, but that seems extreme to get a sample into a keyboard.I read the description on the keyboard it seems like the sampling is more for importing libraries rather than sample editing on-board, they probably just have basic tools in case you need them in a pinch and by design isn't to be a full featured sample editor. My guess.
@davidknight7545 жыл бұрын
@@Pulse2AM It is a mess. Trust me. I've used it. The software that 8Dio provides is not very good, didn't offer velocity layer sampling at the time and a mess of other things. Also, you can't just take a sample and upload to the board... It has to go into a "library" that you build with their software. That is an extra step that takes time and is silly. You can only have so many libraries onboard the synth even if the library is made up of one sample. With the Quantum, you can do as you suggest, just import the sample and be done with it. Also, what is the point of being a synthesizer that focuses on samples if you can't see the waveform in the synth itself, or minutely modify the start / end point of a sample? If you are using standard samples like piano or such, this may not be a problem. If you are into experimental music or want to custom your patches and reuse the sample in several different ways without having to load in the sample several times using different start and end points, this synth won't be for you. It is a players keyboard and not well thought out for sound design at all.

@@davidknight754 I see now. I would never spend 3K on a synth anyhow unless I had tons of cash laying around.

A lot of whistles and bells, but a stone cold sounding synth. No character at all and one of the baddest selling synths ever. They developers tried, but never succeeded.

Quite an ugly synth. Why not upscale the knobs and screens to fit the entire front panel, making it more accessible and helping fill out the space? even the ribbon controllers are small. (I know the reason... it's to save money on their end).
@troublesomecorsair5 жыл бұрын
Not sure why the ribbon controllers would need to be larger. Plenty of width to slide even a thumb across. I like that there's enough space on the corners of the synth for my mouse x) But yeah, I always thought the Rev2 stuff was not very visually compelling. What the Prophet XL really needs is one of those minilogue-xd oscilloscopes!
@maquettemusic16235 жыл бұрын
@@troublesomecorsair could just be longer making it more fine control. Good point on having your mouse there or a smaller synth/effects pedal though.

@Boofsquad We're all ugly synths in this electronic world. #deep
@RayyMusik5 жыл бұрын
They just transplanted the PX UI to the much larger PXL. I don’t find it ugly; nevertheless it’s a shame, because these are no way ‘one knob per function’ synths. The sample section is largely menu-driven. Even the much cheaper Rev2 provides better direct access. A missed opportunity to add more dedicated knobs and thus build a real flagship synth.
