LOVE that Interstellar-esque sound at 7:06. Easily the most AMAZING patch I've heard out of this thing so far. It sounds like a blend of orchestra, organ, and synth, all in one.

Out of pretty much all of the tutorial ,introduction videos of this unit this gentleman here just knows how to play this ...and I mean phenomenally...!!! Yes I am ecstatic about my unit .[ XL ] I own this and can look to figure out what he is playing but it sure would be great to look at the board to see what he is dialing in . Great player ,like a duck to water ,he plays it like he built it ...Really great and intuitive .

After i bought this synth, i sent it my own VCO samples. Once i started using it, i stopped touching other polyphonic synths, and 2 years later, sold my other polys. This is the best-sounding synth i have ever owned (including Jupiter-8). This is a future classic. Misunderstood now.

i own the prophet x, and it's a fantastic synthesizer. however, all the demo's don't do it justice. You can create your own sounds very easily, and it's great to have in the studio if you already own other VCO, or DCO type of synthesizers. To mangle with the samples is really inspiring, and you can create any sound you want. Especially when you are interested in the Fairlight type of sounds, this is an awesome modern sample based synthesizer.
@RayyMusik6 жыл бұрын
Marcusmiller You hit the nail. The PX is fantastic *if* hooked up to an analog synth (mostly Rev2 in my studio). As a stand-alone board it doesn’t sound very powerful.

octopus34 I guess conventional would be a better way to put it.
@geoffk7775 жыл бұрын
@@markuskoivisto There's nothing conventional about it. The waveform mode is mostly regular analog, but you also have wavetable, particle, granular and resonant synthesis that are almost unavailable on other instruments. The 2.0 beta adds FM too. It's a far more versatile and powerful instrument than the Prophet X here.

I don't know. all the demos I've heard so far of this instrument are just decent samples that have a creepy factor to them that I can't quite figure out. is this all this $4K board does? seems like they would have been better off to do a "normal" workstation keyboard with the best quality samples available (without the creepy factor,) a small sequencer (maybe 8 tracks or something since most people do computer based sequencing now,) and a bank of either digital waveforms (ala DW8000,) an FM engine, or just a couple of DCOs, and some effects, and price it between $2,000-2500. also, an Ensoniq sized display would have been nice too. I think they really missed the mark with this one. it's just not going to have a large market outside of people wanting run of the mill samples with a horror movie vibe to them.
@RayyMusik6 жыл бұрын
Well, the PX isn‘t meant to be a workstation but s.th. special to produce “all kinds of crazy shit” (Dave Smith). It is nearly useless as a stand-alone keyboard but really shines in collaboration with an analog synth (Rev2 in my studio). There is an “FM engine”: via the gigantic mod matrix everything can FM everything. Together with some samples, e.g. the VS waveforms, it can produce metallic sounds the DX7 could only dream of. The PX does have major weaknesses, though: - all samples and oscillators have to pass the bottleneck of one single VCA ENV; - the oscillators (same as in the P12 AFAIK) sound digitally thin; - while the percentage of “creepy” samples is only ca. 10, many of the ‘traditional’ ones sound muffled (acoustic pianos, strings,brass, wood); the synth samples are crap; - many samples exist in up to 12 variations just to fill the 150 GB; what are “mid”-sized samples good for? I guess, 8Dio withheld many of their really excellent samples to sell them later for extra money - and failed to do even this. The grand piano and P5 samples they anounced for the end of August are postponed “by the end of this year”. Finally, there’s an unhealthy amount of software bugs in the early PX. So my advice is: wait for another 6 months, get the PX then, hook it up to a good analog - and be happy. :)

@RayyMusik5 жыл бұрын
Confirmed. The DSP oscillators sound tinny. They should have taken the DCOs from the Rev2. The filters, however, are great. Cranking up the filter drive kind of ‘heals’ the poor sound of the OSCs to a certain extent.

面白いデモありがとうございますが、V-SynthGTの方が好きかな?? それと、HammondかHammondのシミュレーションじゃないオルガンは使うつもりがありません。 Thanks for the interesting demo, but I wonder if I like the V-Synth GT more? Also, I can't see why I'd ever use an organ sound that wasn't a Hammond or Hammond simulation. Doing an organ sound on a synthesizer sounds like a synthesizer. Do we want the entire piece of music to sound like a synthesizer, or do we want it to sound like a variety of instruments?

The samples and virtual analog both sound OK, but there is no way I could justify spending over 400,000 Yen ($4000) for this, when Kontakt and some VSTs would sound as good or better for a fraction of the price.
