Editor Nick and Chris from ‪@BOOelectric‬ take a look at the new Trigon 6 from Sequential. Adding to the OB-6 (Chiris owns one of these) and the Prophet-6 which both share the same basic form factor but have differing synth characteristics.
Its fair to say the Trigon 6 is aiming for a more Moog like flavour, with three oscillators and a ladder filter - one could almost say Memory Moog.
With the additional drive and feedback paths, poly mod and twin effect generators its not far off.
We take a look.
The Trigon 6 is available now priced at 3300 UK/ $3499 US.

Good demo. What I don't understand, it seems like the modulation targets which often are forgotten is the mixer or like here the Osc-Volume. If you had that you could blend in different waveforms over time. or by LFO. My JX8-P can do that, why not such a new synth?

@wavesequencer
@wavesequencer Жыл бұрын
Frustrating isn't it, although I don't particularly like entering names on synths by scrolling through letters of the alphabet either - one idea is to keep similar sounds in the same banks - but requires some planning. There is an iOS app that can act as a front panel to the OB6 with patch names.
@kappyLV
@kappyLV Жыл бұрын
Apparently it didn’t bother you enough not to buy the OB-6. The sound after all is what we really are looking for. Being an older guy at this point and having owned a Prophet 5 that I bought in the early 80’s, it seems perfectly natural to me. I also have an OB-6 and a current Roland Fantom with a big screen. I tend to prefer the direct dial number approach than big screen menu diving. Remember a number, remember a name, not much difference to me.

Please Sequential, give us the option to turn off filter quantization! Surely it's possible via firmware... It doesn't sound Moogy enough to be a good substitute for a real Moog. Maybe it will inspire Moog to put out their version of a modern polyphonic synth under $5K. In the meantime, I think the Matriarch is the best option for someone who wants the Moog sound combined with the ability to play chords.

The Trigon-6 is really close to the Memorymoog, I guess it was common to compare a Memorymoog to a Mini, but they differ in a lot of ways that the Tirgon-6 emulates closer to the Memorymoog. All this to say it's funny he gets excited by things that are Memorymoog features without referencing the Memorymoog.

@@gretareinarsson7461 Played and owned a few, honestly its hard to pick one and very easy to end up with all of them if your bank balance allows for it! The OB6 is difficult to make sound bad, but a little limited as a result. The Rev2 is sort of the opposite. Which is better is more about your needs and what character you're after. If you don't need the features of the Rev2, no point going for it, nor is it sensible to go for the P/OB/Trigon6 if you want more voices, modulation etc. I generally don't miss or regret selling gear, the Rev2 is the one of very few bits of gear I regret selling. Been thinking of selling my P6 for the P10, but still considering the Rev2 as well, its really that good! Just to add, the OB6 is probably the last one I'd go for out of the Sequential Polys, but its more the Prophet character I get one with better, along with ladder filters. But it is glorious.

For some (a fair few I would guess) the positives will outweigh the negatives enough to get one though I am not among them. The sound and workflow/interface are both just fantastic and those count for a LOT. However, 6 voices would be acceptable IF it was also bi-timbral. Mediocre onboard effects as with almost all synths. (Summit is among the truly rare exceptions to that) 4 octave keybed instead of 5. Price. I look at the P10rev4 module which is actually less and for me that is no contest; particularly if you already have a controller or other synth to pair with it.

This is NOT or never will be a Pro 3, out out of the 3 filters, the Moog filter is the weakest on the Pro 3, but the T6's filter has been improved on. So how does a 3 voice paraphonic sound better than a 6 voice panned stereo? They're 2 entirely different synths, 1 being mono, the other being polyphonic.

Man..... Dave was an incredibly innovative guy from the early days with the poly mod on the P5 and the little mod matrix on the Pro One all the way up to the more modern greats like the Poly Evolver and Prophet X but these last couple releases are just incredibly boring. No more deep mod matrix, multiple LFOs, multiple EGs, multiple filters, etc. Just stripped down to primitive specs but the raw sound is still just that kind of bland, sterile, ultra bright, boring new generic analog sound that lacks any character. I was really bored with the OB6, P6, and Take 5 and this one is the most dull one yet. $3500 for this? That's pretty nutty. There are way better synths out there for that price. I just got my second PX for less than 2K. The Trigon sounds nothing like a Moog. If you are willing to pay $3500 for this I would highly recommend saving your money and looking for a used Moog One. You can probably get an 8 voice for just a bit more money and you'll have a real Moog, 8 voices, tri-timbral, 4 lfos, 3 filters, etc etc etc.

The facia is totally uninspiring. No wonder the Jupiter 8 is still so gorgeous in 2023 when there seems to be a complete lack of imagination in synth design these days.

Sorry don’t often do negative comments but this was boring , it’s not as entertaining and engaging without Nick doing his usual great comments , sounds & playing and video production . the static video angle, felt like a boring instruction video 😳 . And without nice inspiring sounds I couldn’t watch it all . Sorry guys not the best format .

Agreed, also missing Nick's wrap-up with pros and cons. And Nick's patches and noodling.

Steady on. Edd’s module vids were largely the same angle-wise. Granted it’s a polysynth, but it’s just a difference in noodling styles? Watch the 5 minutes with Roland Promars video. The magic will come.

So much negativity in the comments! It's a wicked review and well up to the SonicState standards. People don't do well with change and we all love Nick but he can't do everything and it's nice to see him provide opportunities to excellent synth nerds such as Chris to provide content for SonicState.
