The sequences at 8:48 might be the most intelligent I've ever heard in a synth demo and I've been listening for over 20 years. Steve Reich and John Adams' influence never sounded so good. The pandiatonic harmonies are as fun as the periodic lines starting at different places in each sequence to give the effect of changing meters with only four sequence slots. And you did it all on a 16-step sequencer x 4.

I think there is only 3 other things I would love the Pro 3 to do. No idea if it's possible but would love for Wavetable number to be a modulation destination and that way you could do wave sequencing with different wavetable for each sequencer step. The other thing is to somehow be able to route each oscillator to a single filter. This would be insane when in sequencer mode as essentially you could have 3 different sequences going, each with their own note, filter, env (using the 2 Aux envelopes). The other is the ability to "arm" the sequencer slots. AS it stands right now, it's changes on the fly when you press them as the sequencer is playing. It would be nice to be able to click "B" and have sequence A play in it's entirety and then switch over to "B" once it completes.
@johnnyt55143 жыл бұрын
I guess the second one is not possible by design. The first one can be done using wavetable position, but afaik not the wavetable selection itself, which would be really cool. Since sequencer tracks can be used as a modulation source, there are already some pretty neat things that can be done with it. The last one would be cool either, but only if it can be switched on and off.

Can you have complex time signatures? I write a lot in 5/4, 7/4, 7/8 and 9/8 mainly and sometimes mixing stuff like 3 bars of 1 time sig followed by a bar of a different time sig before resolving again...?

@@sinuendo I caved too :) I got to thinking that sequential doesn't seem to do more that two variations of their products. Since there was a standard and SE, I figured a desktop wasn't going to be made. I have the OB-6 module--I think it is worth the cost. OB-6 is in a league of its own.

For whatever reason, it seems that, with the exception of one iteration of the Evolver, Dave Smith / Sequential never makes desktop versions of mono synths. And Dave himself probably only created that one in the throes of his comeback. Man, I wish he could come back. I wish he was still here.

It really does do virtually everything one could ever want in a subtractive-style mono synth. It's not perfect, but it's the closest I've ever seen.

As on my Subsequent 37, the envelopes loop, but unlike the Moog, you cannot sync the different settings on the envelope to clock. BIG difference in the results. On the Moog you can easily make the looped envelopes "swing". I have both synths, so comparisons are daily!😉😉😎

The whole sequencer thing in this thing s a game changer! There are couple of small things though that are not perfect about it. For example not all knobs can be recorded in sequencer. And the main disappointment for me personally is that Attack and Decay automation doesn't record well - they get stuck at 0 values and are not editable after that. I think after that got fixed the synth will be 100% perfect and the best mono synth ever.

I've owned one since March 2020 and that's really not how I'd characterise the Pro 3. It's an incredibly versatile monosynth that lends itself to a wide range of applications. The great thing about the sequencer is that you can also use it just to sequence modulation rather than notes (with each modulation stream having a different length if you want), giving you constantly shifting sounds and textures as you play. I would agree that if you simply want a monsynth for soloing with simple waveforms in a 70s jazz fusion sort of style then what the Pro 3 offers is overkill, but to suggest that it's just a 'set the sequencer going and twiddle some knobs for 20 minutes' sort of machine is well wide of the mark.
