I recorded this video using my new iPhone 16 Pro Max, and assembled the clips in Adobe Premiere Pro CC, without making any adjustments to color, exposure, sharpness, etc. I wanted to test this how well the camera records night Holiday scenes that are lit up with multicolored lights and compare the difference in image quality and resolution as I switched cameras from .5, 1x and 2x while recording. Except for the first few scenes recorded at 4k 60 fps during the late afternoon ambient lighting, I changed the settings to be 4K at 30 fps. Clearly, scenes recorded using the 1x lens are the sharpest, even with the slow movement of the tractors. And in all videos, when I panned the camera with the motion, details, such as people’s faces were much sharper. This is no surprise as it is a basic photography technique to pan with the action. What I like about this iPhone is that the brief zoom in or out when selecting a different lens is much smoother and can be left in the video as is without being so jerky and annoying. Now that I am learning how to select the best camera settings, my photos and videos are improving significantly, and I am liking my iPhone 16 Pro Max much better!
Background:
This upgrade from my iPhone 11 Pro Max to the iPhone 16 Pro Max, five generations newer, presented a nightmare of issues for me! It took me at least four times longer to edit and render this video! I almost returned this iPhone to Apple, even getting a prepaid FedEx shipping label! But after learning how to “fix” some of these software, default camera settings, and color space CODEC issues while editing this video, I am pleased with the result. And now that I better understand what’s going on inside of the iPhone 16 Pro Max camera, I have decided to keep it.
