Having some experience in both...the build quality is about 10% better on the Toyota. The ride, power, space is much better on long drives on the Expedition. The seats alone were the selling point for me. Super comfy!!!! The non flat cargo area, terrible headroom height in second row and shorter seat height in third row was why we traded in. Sucks when you have 6 adults. The power is somewhat lack luster when towing a camper as well for the rated torque. The Expedition is not perfect but gets better w a 3" level, 35" Falkin AT3's and a few other performance goody's making an excellent trail rated and camping rig for our family. great channel guys, excellent content. Sequoia tow mirror is amazing. Wagoneer, expedition, and Tahoe/suburban don't have them. Many 9000+ trailers/campers really need them. Great job Toyota

Everyone complains about the rear of the sequoia but the tahoe/yukon/suburban/escalade had a solid axle for generations until they switched to an independent rear suspension in 2021. They were the last to do, and yet people still bought them. At least the shelf of the sequoia can be used to make the load surface flad with the seats folded down.

I love the Sequoia cargo room, perfect! I’m not a road hoarder, I don’t need a huge garbage bin to carry half of the garage junk.

I think the point is that the previous generation Sequoias had IRS and Toyota did away with it. That is not “new & improved”.
@Jackmerius_Tacktheretrix5 ай бұрын
@drw1926 depends on the application. If you tow and go offroad it is improved because a solid axle is always going to be more durable for towing than an IRS, and the tires won't bow in due to the negative camber when you load it down and wear the insides of the tires out prematurely if you haul on the regular or have a larger family. Also, the solid axle will give lots more articulation. GM kept the solid axle forever, and nobody complained when each new generation came out. They were literally the only large SUVs that had a solid axle. For me, I prefer the solid axle for towing and offroading, plus it doesn't need to be aligned or have the camber adjusted like an IRS. On the plus side, the IRS will ride better and give better 3rd row space and seats that fold into the floor.

So unfortunate that lack of storage space on the Sequoia was a deal breaker for me. This is coming from a Suburban. In the end I went with a Ram 2500 Laramie diesel and added a center front seat. So it sits 6 and carries a ridiculous amount of stuff for camping and long hauls. And average highway mpg of 21-22.
@garymcgowan40579 ай бұрын
Should also mention the gas tank capacities, the Expedition is over 5 gallons more. And they get really close to the same gas mileage, and with many 3rd gen Sequoia owners reporting some really bad numbers so far the Sequoia probably will get you less mpg. So another 100+ miles available to the Expedition. The Sequoia's tanks is too small.
@sammiemakki93393 ай бұрын
Bro do you travel for a living? Getting 400 miles per tank on the Sequoia is not bad. As far as the MPG’s goes, a lot report getting about 17-19mpg, some report lower but they’re usually pushing it because that drivetrain is very playful. Also they usually get better mileage after the engine break-in period

Since 1999 my family and I have bought nothing but Lexus, Toyota and Ford. Gx460 and 470, ISF, HS250, RX350.. Sequoia, 2 tacos, matrix, Tundra and BRZ.. 5 MUSTANGS, Explorer, taurus, 3 F150's, 2 F350's and ZERO PROBLEMS WITH ANY OF THEM... Our Fords were just as problem free... I'm just saying... Now correct, outside of the resale value the Lexus/Toyota's were way better outside of the F150's..

My friend has a 23 Expedition. I hate to say it but it is a lemon. It had to have a replacement engine at 9,000 miles. He wants to trade to a Sequoia TRD Pro but says he'll be upside down and the TRD Pro's he found all have markups. I understand that you get what you pay for but you have to be crazy to pay a markup in these shaky times.

Ford needs a full overhaul of Expedition. GM is eating them alive with Tahoes and Yukons.

GM has always dominated this market segment. But they're losing customers due to severe quality issues. Myself included. I had a 2017 fully loaded Yukon Denali. I had it in the shop 6 times in as many months, with multiple issues. It broke my heart as I was a GM guy my whole life. I ended up trading it in on a 2017 Ford F-150 Platinum. I never had an issue with it. I traded that in with 90,000 miles on it on a new Stealth Expedition. I've had it about a year and love it! I did drive a new Tahoe with the 6.2, but liked the Ford better. (although I like the front end design of the Tahoe much better.

I've grown up on GM, but their quality/reliability has plummeted. Toyota and Ford are the only ones I would buy at this time. Things could change, they always do, and I realize all mfgr's have their issues, but GM has far to many problems nowadays.

I actually think I like the Ford a little bit better, but let's be honest, Ford is not known for their quality, so for long-term ownership I'll take the Yota despite its faults. I also just can't get past the pricing, who has the money for expensive vehicles like this???

What a missed opportunity by ford to double up on the awe inspiring raptor front independent basically used in the rear. Thats the difference between world champ Loren Healy and Von Gitten... ILL take the ford exped anyday. the sequoia looks cool but its not user friendly like the 4runner. maybe not the timberline bc of how its spec'ed. some of it is ok but it would be nice if i could change a few things like the huge screen, no sunroof, rear bench instead of capt chairs, no third row, retractable side steps. these features would be more ideal for an offroad build and i could prob do it for cheaper starting with an 2 row sxt.

Who designed the back of that Sequoia? They should be fired for that luggage space. It fails at being a three row SUV with luggage space.

The Sequoia is not made for hoarding families, who haul junk everywhere they don’t even use. The Sequoia is intended for people who are organized and know what they need to haul. That’s more than enough room back there for any outdoor activities or trips unless you wanna drag half of your garage junk on the road in your pussy asphalt Tahoe or clunky Yukon.

Obviously the battery and solid rear axle are using the space. I’m not carrying a football team with me, so if I rarely need the space, I’ll just put the third row down for plenty of space… the Sequoia has more power and torque than a Tahoe or Yukon with the upgraded 6.2L V8 engine and much more fun to drive (I drove both). Infotainment is better and bigger, shifter is crap in GM (push and pull buttons). Resale value is better too. I’ll sacrifice a little space that I never use for all that
